Yeah they are just DDP injectors, and he is a distributor. Many people run DDP, they seem to do pretty well.

So what exactly is sent to me when I pay my $1099?

I want to upgrade my injectors one day but I can't pull my injectors, ship them off, have them modified and tested, shipped back to me then reinstalled. I want the new ones in my hand before pulling the old ones out. Is this something you can do?

That is just nozzles either you pull yours send em to him and he swaps nozzles or he sends you nozzles and you do the swap and send your cores back and pay 699 for just nozzles or pay the core the 1099 and keep your stock nozzles. DDP sells just nozzles.

It's a whole other monster from your sticks. The injectors from Cummins stock are $450 a piece.

I don't know a lot about them but, I'm guessing it's because the 3rd gens are electronic and your are mechanical

DDP just uses the stock tips and rehones them and maybe EDM's them. What I didn't like about going with them is, you could send them tips with 500 miles on them and get back tips that may have 100K on them. Ya never know who's core you might get unless you keep yours and buy a set from them. Still... how many miles have they seen ???

Is swapping nozzles something a shade tree mechanic can do? Any special tools required?

Anybody with a bench vice and a an injector tool ours is a 22mm wrench ground down and welded to a 2" piece of channel iron that mounts in the vice and tightens down the turn the injector over and place in the ground wrench around where the hold down bolts shim is located and take a small flathead screwdriver and easily pry the copper o-rings off and then loosen nozzles hold down and take nozzle off then place new nozzle on and nozzle hold down over that and torque to 55ftlbs and place the copper o-rings back on. Torque injector hold down down then loosen up torque injector feed tube nuts to 37ftlbs and then torque the injector hold downs to 89inlbs by tightening and then backing the hold downs off and placing feed tubes in and torquing them then torquing the hold downs again will make sure the two seal together correctly alot of truck out their encounter the feed tubes leaking from not installing correctly cummins recomends going with new feed tubes anytime injectors are pulled to avoid this problem but at $50 apieceX6 i think ill go the way i described above my injectors have been in and out of my 03 6 times and no problems or leaks from feed tube/injector body seal. Might take the first timer a good 4 or 5 hours but its not to hard ddp has instructions on their website that are detailed and step by step.

A inch lb and ft lb torque wrench is required for install along with the usuall sockets mainly all metric but the injector lines are 3/4 inch and the feed tube nuts are 15/16 and the back two are always the funest a crows foot will help on the injector lines or a line wrench. Also a air ratchet sure makes things nice. Good luck but youll get some gratification outta doing it.

I do not like changing tips. I would rather pull them myself and have them tested with the new tips on them and sent back to me ready for reinstall. These injectors are the most picky woman like item we have on these trucks. And I know my garage is not a super clean environment and I mey get some dust or dirt in the tips and screw them up. When I shopped for my first set I called 2 local well known diesel shops, and both said they were going to stop just switching tips cause these darn injectors are so picky, and they were having problems with customer trucks. They were going to only sell from companies that would take the entire injector body, and flow test it with the new tips. Having your truck down a few days sucks but with the price of injectors and these motors I would rather take a few days down and have them 100% correct when done. I mean what if you have an internal problem? The only way to know you are good is to have your injector flow tested with the new tip in place.

WOW!

Looks like I missed alot of questions.... Sorry guys!

CReed thanks for the good info, and guys he is right they are tips only. I include the core in the price on my site so you can see how much you need to get injectors to your door, most places save that 400 core for when you are right about to pay.

Yes they are easy, and they come with the tool for a vice to install them yourself from DDP, once they are installed you send the cores back to DDP and they send you a credit (you keep the tool). The torque sequence is very important when putting these injectors back in, if it is not done correctly your feed tubes will leak diesel into the oil.

Sorry I was a little slow, I am moving this week.

CReed thank you for the great info, and everyone have a great day!
