GT42R v.s A5K

Come on guys lets make this a long thread. I really think that these two turbos are going to be the key to making 800+Hp on 2 only. These turbos speak for themselves you dont need to talk up either of them. On is a 71mm inducer and the other is 73.5. The A5K is the smaller one. With W1icked putting down 830 with the A5K and McRat putting out 770 something and saying he needs more fuel. Thats very impressive. I know McRat has Dmax but hes the only one I know seriously testing the GT42R. I want to know what people think about the streetable issues with both and how they both drive, boost levels, surge problems, etc. Well I hope we can get some good feedback from everyone on here. I personally think with the GT42R and some injectors that compare to a big flux 4 and 850+ will deffinatly be achievable.

For drivability purposes the gt42r is too big in single form, smokinrod has 1 on his pull truck, awesome turbo, movesa ton of air and good boost, takes alot to spool it,it will make hp,probably not good for everyday driving

Ok. See maybe thats the difference all the chevy guys say its very streetable. It just seems like what you need to produce 850+ on #2 with a single.

I wonder how much laggier it is than the a5K. Im talking about the liquid cooled dual ball bearing.

I knew which one you were talkin about, looks wise it isnt that much bigger, exhaust housing is,compressor sides are similiar, only 2.5mm differences in wheels.

I heard the GT42R spools quicker because its a liquid cooled dual ball bearing.

It spools quicker than a conventional 42,but not quick enough to drive on the street everyday,if you have to change turbos id say the a5 is a better bet,its your truck though

Hey blackbeast you ought to just put an S475 on that thing with a 75mm compressor wheel.
I heard they spool fast!

Seriously blackbeast if you are even remotely worried about surging or turbo lag you need to look somewhere else.

BTW they make a GT42 with a 70mm intake wheel. Its the GT42 94. The one you are talking about is the GT42 102.

GT4202 and it is a very streetable turbo on the Dmax. So maybe the cummins cant handle driving around the street with it. I just cant believe that theres that big of a difference. The GT4202 is only 2.1mm bigger and its water cooled dual ball bearing which you think would make up one the spool factor for that extra 2.1mm.

Look up the GTK 1000 from Turbonetics (3" compressor wheel .96 A/R turbine). It has a map width enhancement feature machined into the front of the compressor housing that will help with surge...
Turbonetics also has a no questions warranty that covers turbo destruction.

Well im considering doing the GT42R because I think it will move 850+ on #2 only and I can get a good deal on a water cooled dual ball bearing. If I talked to enough people and I think its that unstreetable I might not get it. I just cant belive its streetable for the dmax guys and not us. Especially with all the fuel im gonna throw at it.
