Rim size vs. Tire Price?

I am shopping again for new tires and have a few in consideration. However, everytime i buy tires, it seems like the 35x12.50R17 is uncommon and therefore more expensive. Is this the case everywhere, or just up north here? If this is the case, does anyone have suggestions for a more common size, like bumping up to an 18" rim? The rate i go through tires being on the road all the time is starting to hurt the bank account and i would like to still have big tires, as well as in a more common size. Any help would be great as i am headed to get new tires this weekend. If neccesary i will get new wheels too, so sugestions are welcome. Also input for backspacing to fit 37x13.50 would be great. Thanks guys.

35x12.50x17 is a pretty common size, i'd even say it is a very popular size. I know many people who run that size, on this forum and in person. I don't know what kind of a tire you are looking for but that size is usually correlated with M/T type tires.

Are you looking for more of a A/T type tire? Toyo makes the A/T in a 35.

I have had pro-comp x-at's, x-mt's, cooper stt's, bfg mt's it always seems to be the same story. Either no one has them when i have tire problems or they are rediculously more than other sizes that dont fit the stock rims.

unless you have an off-road oriented shop close by it can be a pain getting bigger tires sometimes. i think it is worth it to get a 5th tire as spare and order online.

A 315/70/17 is pretty close to a 35. Also the new size everybody seems to like is 285/75/17 which is close to a 35 but not as wide. I have ran 305/70/17 and thought they looked great and didnt hurt my mileage to much.

285/75/18 is a good compromise for me. 34.8" so basically a true 35". Fairly narrow for mileage but fills the wheel wells nice. Just a matter of buying some 18" rims. The tires only run about $220 for a Toyo AT.

i would stay with 17" rims, the cost goes up every inch you go up in rim size. my buddy just went through this on his truck, had 20's on it, now it has 17's, cause the tires are cheaper. rims are lighter too.

I agree with Pullin hard - I've got 20's on mine and the price for tires really jumps up. I'm looking at around $400 each for Toyo O/C M/T's in 35x12.5x20.

X2 on the 285/75/17...

The fit and look very well with stock wheels.

No rubbing and fill the wheel wells, without stick out past the fenders.

I'll 2nd or 3rd the comment about going up in wheel size and tire price . . . but I'd still do it again in a heart beat. IMHO 35" tires looks like a lot of rubber on not a lot of wheel.
