i bought a hornet alarm system that is made by DEI and it is very similar to the viper. Cost a little less and came with 2 remotes( at the time viper only came with one). The guy I had install it did not use a timer, he tapped into the heater light and when that goes off the truck starts. The only trouble I have had was a check engine light code 2609, which relates to the air heater sensors. My mechanic was unable to clear the code by the dearlor did it after checking all the sensors and stuff for $$75 bucks. this only happened once and it was probably my fault. didn't think the truck started, it was, pushed button to start it, truck shut off,as truck shut off i immediately restarted it by remote and then the engine light came on!

"The "install kit" they're talking about is the security bypass module but since you have the black key there isn't a security system, however it does control the door locks and dome light. Don't believe the "Range" claims. You'll be lucky if it works 100yds away. Your not going to be able to transmit a radio signal that far with a watch battery. I've probably installed 100 or so alarms, starters and none have had anything close to the range the mfg claimed regardless of brand."

The range claim on mine is 1/4 mile, it's worked at that distance a few times but only with no obstructions. Just depends on where you are because most of the time I have to be a lot closer than that to start it.

Unhappy Remote Starter install issue with brake wire

Has anyone had an issue with hooking up the wire to the brake monitor circuit? I'm installing a Black Widow Z5 remote alarm/starter in my '04 Dodge 3500 Diesel Dually...When I hook up the wire the brake light stays on, and when I take the wire off it won't remote start. Any clues??? Newbee

Crazy, what factory wire are you connecting to? Sounds kinda like you are grounding the e-brake wire out while running...

Well I am off too Best Buy again. I am going to return the remote starter I bought and get the one with the mile range on it. Then I am going to a local stereo shop and ask if they will install it.

Hey Mudslinger, Thanks for the response! I have been wiring to the White w/ tan on the brake switch.
I called the tech dude @ Black Widow and he told me It shouldn't happen, but I can isolate it with a relay...So i'm going to give that a try tommorow.
Have a good one!

Good luck with that, let us know how it works out. Shouldn't be too hard to straighten out.

Big Dave, I would recomend bringing that starter back and buying one through the local 12v shop. They usually have a price that is the installed price and includes the unit. You will pay the same if not more if you bring them a unit I would assume. We have a sign in our shop that reads : You don't bring the dinner eggs to cook so please don't bring us parts to install. If you are from the worcster area check out Hooligan Motoring Ryan is freinds of ours and does top quality work.

The thing is I got Gift cards from Best Buy. So unless my local 12v dealer gives me a great price I will stick with the Best Buy product.
