Quieter clutch?

This new valair clutch I have rattles like crazy in neutral. Drives me nuts. What's gonna be a quiter clutch that can handle 500 ish hp? Mostly tow under 10k.

Thanks for any ideas.

Maybe they can upgrade you to their "silent" model.

I might just get another sb. Had a spring let go on my last one with 80k on it. Wasn't overly impressed.

is your valair a multi plate clutch? those are really noisy when brand new and get a lot quieter after they break in.

Valair makes a multi plate silent clutch now, they also can convert their multi plate spring hub style clutch to the quiet version for $100.

When I called and asked about it he said the hub material was real hard and caused the gear rattle to be more severe. I only notice it when I let the truck idle in neutral. It's so loud that I have to either put the clutch in or turn the truck off at a drive through. My south bend wasn't anything like this. It just gave up a little sooner than I would of liked. It did hold like a champ though. I didn't have the money when i got this valair to go with a good clutch so I went with something to get me by. I've got some extra $ now so probably going to replace it. The valair slips real bad anyways so not all about the noise.

Weird, my dual disc is only noisy when i have it disengaged. But then again my engine is alot louder than your 3rd gen so i may not hear it in neutral.

I just put the Valair 475hp stage II in my truck and it's noisy as well. I have over 4K miles on it now and its still loud. I did the 7qts of amsoil ATF too. My noise isn't gear rattle though, it's all hydrolic fluid like noise. Its still annoying though. I'll run it because I don't want to drop too much more money, but I'm not exactly happy with the setup. Maybe next time I'll go with the South bend, but in another 100K miles or 7 years, perhaps something better will have been developed!
