quieter engine with synthetic?
quieter engine with synthetic?
I just switched to synthetic oil for my engine and it seems
a lot quieter at first start in the morning, anyone else notice this? No idea what was in it before, it came with fresh oil when I bought it. I am using Delo 400 Synthetic 5W-40, I got it for $15.57
per gallon, $50 plus change for 3 gallons, it could probably be found cheaper with a little shopping around.
Next is synthetic for the rearends and 5 speed, Amsoil, got any suggestions for a synthetic ATF for the T-Case?
Thanks
Robert
Re:quieter engine with synthetic?
I'd look into using Red Line MT90 for the transmission. It's a 75W-90 GL-4 synthetic lube, the same rating as the factory fill Castrol Syntorq LT, but less expensive. GL-4 lubes usually contain 1/2 the extreme pressure/anti-wear additives sulfur and phosphorus, which makes them more friendly to the yellow metals, and provides "traction" for the synchros to work effectively, over one that's GL-5 rated. I know Mobil 1 does not recommend their synthetic 75W-90 gear lube be used in transmissions, because it's rated GL-5.

T-case, Mobil 1 synthetic ATF, $4.99 a quart at AutoZone.
Re:quieter engine with synthetic?
My engine was a lot quieter on the interior after switching to Redline. It also seems to just run a lot better. I even got a little more boost now! I have Redline in the engine, trans and trans case, and mobil 1 in the diffs. Very happy all around.

Hohn
