Question about twins and tranny

I was wondering if you could throw twins on with a mostly stock tranny and tune the boost levels down so it doesn't kill it. I was looking at the Stocker over 64 mm Twin Kit or the S475/StockTwin by diesel power source.

I mainly just want them to keep the egt's down while towing.... but if I did tune them down would that defeat the purpose or still work? I just dont have the money right now for a tranny upgrade... but it would be in the future

I think it depends on how you will treat your tranny,

I suggest a tranny build and tourqe converter upgrade to be safe. I don't know much about the 2007 tranny but the 47re and 48re it would be a must.

Maybe drop the pan and check your magnet to check your current wear.

Also would injectors and a upgraded fuel system be a must? I would make that the first step.

Hopefully others will chime that have done a twin build

I know a lot of DIRTYMAXES running twins with zero problems and they run them pretty good. But those dirtymaxes can handle it but I have seen others that cant. Those guys are running a stock turbo with a 47mm as the twin

I would love to run twins but I don't race and my built turbo does great with my 5 horse trailer with double walls. Its a very heavy trailer and with horses/mules loaded and climbing these steep Wyoming mountians I am very happy. the truck was ok stock but passing people and a hot tranny the upgrades I did was for towing and of course some decent performance...

It'll live for a bit, maybe...Mine made it 35,xxx mi or so on Crazy Larry, another 3,xxx or so w/ componds. When we pulled mine, front clutch pack forward had the wear and obvious signs of heat. Rearward, everything looked like day one.
Compounds afford you the ability to climb most any grade, most any weight, in the left lane. Ultimately the trans pays for that. A mildly built trans w/ a good triple disc TC will aid a WHOLE bunch in keping trans temps down (less slippage = less heat). At a minimum I would plan on: SFI rated flex plate, triple disc, front band and clutch pack, Superior shift kit, BW HD solenoid, billet band anchor and strut, bump the line pressure up, gut the TC anti-drain valve and a good actual builder, not just a parts changer. This provided everything else looks good.
Stock / over will perform flawlessly with stock fuel. Mine worked perfectly w/ stock injectors, just wanted more. Still running the stock CP3, but it will also maintain 22,800-23,000 psi. I did eventually add a FASS but mainly for filtering and to support future growth.

Ya I've decided its a better idea to wait and do the tranny first. I know I'd end up blowing it.
I'm not really looking to make a crazy amount of hp so I will stick with the stock injectors until they go. I will how ever add a Fass or airdog at some point for filtering.
