On second gen, #6 cylinder runs the hottest, so we put ours in the rear divided flute just before the turbo. I don't see why it would be way off if you drilled closer to the hottest cylinder, but if you drill way up front by #1&2, you will get cooler egt readings. The biggest advantage that I see just before the turbo is that you get an average of all cylinders.

Ah64id, what if #5 injector hangs up just enough to rise egt's an extra 300* but you can't pick it up because you are only testing first three cylinders?

Wouldn't it take two pyros because there is a divider at the collector?

That's what I think. In my last truck I ran two pyros, one for the TST and one for my Isspros. The TST was right above the turbo picking up the rear cyls, the other on the top picking up the front three.

Mine never seemed to be more than 50°-100° apart.

My new gauge is going to pick up from the front three. Until I run some big power I'm not going to worry about it. Later, though, I'll be running two pyros.

Moved mine to here.. temps seem very similar, maybe a hair faster to cool to 250-300*... No towing yet, thou my kitty is gone, so wont be a fair comparison.

Its a very simple procedure to drill and tap the manifold. I used a right angle drill, drilled a pilot hole then the full size. Tapping was just as easy. If the bit is sharp 99% of the shavings come out the hole as you drill. For the tap just run it in and out cleaning it. I then pressurized the manifold with my vacuum, and started the truck. (any small chips will be blown out before the turbo gets up to enough speed to hurt it.)

Here's a neat, easy trick for those worried about drill/tapping debris getting in the turbo: Unbolt the turbo from the manifold, allowing it to drop down enough to slide a little piece of cardboard in between the turbo and manifold, blocking off the turbo. Drill and tap to your heart's content, forget the grease. Start the engine for two seconds, blowing any debris out on to the floor. Re-assemble, finished. You might want to change the gasket, they cost like $2.

I agree with the warm part.. but not the running part. What if the bit breaks or a piece stays in the manifold.. it now hitting tubro blades at idle rpms.
