Programmer MPG increase - true or false?
Since installing the Smarty on my truck I noticed my miles per tank go up from 475 to around 550. I run the Smarty set on SW#1, fuel saver mode. Can't really keep my foot out of it anymore so my mpg's have probably stayed the same.
I have tried to get mpg results before in my truck but like some have said above I do good for about 1/4 of a tank than I just dirve like I want to alll along.
I have noticed with the stock programming and tst on 1 for timing I get about 1mpg improvement over the smarty in my daily commute 50/50 city/highway. But it is way more fun to drive it around with it all tuned up!
It's already killing me this week and soon to be next week, I sent my smarty in for the POD update. The TST alone is just not the same.

I have always had good luck with TST and Smarty helping MPG is driven easy. The overhead is useless for providing MPG results and anyone should be hand calculating to determine actual results. I use my overhead as a baseline to tell how the truck is doing comparing to previous results but has always read higher than my hand calculations.
Present overhead reads 22.1 and last tank was 19.6....
Fillled the tank for under $100!! thinking this was a great $2.99 per gallon. Drive down the road and saw another station at $2.95... That is why I do not play lottery or gamble...

I don't think the programmer makes the over heads lie any more than it does prior to adding it in. Hand calc is the only real way to get it right. That said, in my opinion, in many cases the new programs are going to be a little better for MPG when the programmers get to stop worrying about emissions and warranty.
As a bonus with my Smarty I have the smoke to tell me I am not being thifty. . . .it helps with right foot control. But fun when I want it.

It doesn't matter for me if the Smarty messes with the over head, it's never been within 2.5 anyway. Just last month coming back from the NC GTG I was able to check my mileage on the highway. Running the posted speed limit and on the interstate I ran 70, I got 19.98. The trip was about 625 miles, 500 interstate, 125 secondary roads. My previous best was running stock over 700 miles and I got 18.5. All numbers were hand calculated and the over head was off about 2.5, with or without the Smarty.
