Post turbo swap question. he341 to he351

The swap was easy and went great but now I'm wondering if I missed something. I blocked the solenoid port with an ATS plug. Then tapped the turbo housing and installed a adjustable boost elbow. Attached a hose between the adjustable elbow and the WG. I took it for a spin and saw 20-22 psi boost. Then I closed the elbow (all the way in) and can only hit between 26-28 psi at WOT. Everything else on my truck is totally stock. Does this sound normal. Everybody else seemed to see in the 30's - 40's pretty easy. Dont know were to start. Thanks for any help in advance.

It's normal if you're not adding more fuel. Installing a performance box or programmer can change that.

Like Mike said, you need more fuel to spin it faster. My 05 only made 27 with no fuel mods (or boost fooler). You should be about right. With the Smarty (and newest tune) I bumped 51 lbs of boost yesterday, and held 46 while only getting up to 1,200 deg. This was on a grade with a 9,000 lbs trailer.

In before koons "what programmer" thread. And I vote Smarty (S-06 Revo)! I made 470/940 on the dyno with nothing but a Smarty on my truck (stock tire size). And that was with a five year old 170hp file.

egts are good i can hold it at WOT for a bit and not see more than 1100. Planning on doing a smarty jr. and calling it good. I may also drill the wastegate actuator rod and give it a few turns. just wasnt sure what i was supposed to be seeing with stock fuel. thanks guys

My all stock 03 will see 1200 from time to time. But you have to be towing heavy and working the truck hard to do that. With your swap and a Smarty Jr., you should be good to go. Until you need a clutch. The 37" tires and power you've got will be hard on it.

I just took out the adjustable boost elbow out and threaded in a plug. Eliminating the wastgate and I'm still seeing 27-29. Gauge is kinda bouncing a little.

So would that tell me 1-(thats all im gonna get out of the turbo without fuel upgrades). or 2- (I have a boost leak somewhere?)

Everybody else who did the swap said thet saw 35-40 psi. If 27-29 is it I'm fine with that I can feel a bit of a difference. Just wanna make sure everything is good to go.

With a HE351 and smarty jr, pulling 10klb 5th wheel I would hit 35 then drop to just over 30 with my foot into it. Without load 30 is hard to hit.

Without a tuner, I'm betting that's all you'll see. Check your connections for a leak, then get the Smarty on.

Cool guys thank you very much. Are autometer boost gauges known for jumping or fluttering around a bit while going around the gauge?

I have two autometer gauges, and one isspro. They are fairly smooth. No jumping, skipping, or leap frogging. It might be a problem with the gauge. Did it do this with the HE341?

yes, i might try to tear back into it over the weekend. the boost gauge is also the only one that doesnt dim the same as the other two (pyro, fuel). Its like it stays on bright all the time as the other two dime with the factory gauge cluster. they are all wired to the dimmer switch in the same place.
