Painting Rims?

Hey guys, has anyone Painted their wheels Vs Powder Coating them? The reason I ask is because I pick up a set of H2's on ebay and wanted to have them color matched to my truck. I have the Light Khaki Metallic and I thought they would look pretty good with black dodge center caps. I'm just worried about tire mounting and the durability of using paint on the rims. What do you think?

Mike

You can do it. I had my Lambo rims painted to match my car and you just have to use a clear coat. THey have lasted over 18 months and look like new and they are subjected to far more heat, and brake dust than any of our trucks will ever see. It's ALL about the clearcoat!

Thanks D. that's what I thought but I wasn't 100% sure. Haven't seen any trucks with painted rims on this site. BTW your truck is awsome.

Why would your car's brakes be subjected to more brake dust and heat than out trucks? is some thing wrong with your car? Or do you race your car in formula one or something??? I'm confused....because pulling loads and getting them to stop with your truck takes alot of effort for brakes also compaired to most cars any way.

I would be willing to bet that my 15" front rotors braking 4,000lbs. from 200 MPH makes a lot more heat than stopping just about anything from 70-80.

With paint you need to be very careful when mounting tires. Otherwise there's no problem.

Invest in a set of "covered" sockets like the ones Griot's Garage has. They are great for that sort of thing and won't ding your chrome or paint if they fall.

I worry more about mounting the tire to the rim than the wheel/tire to the truck.

Good point! I was not even thinking of that! Deifnitely go to a COMPETENT tire place (if any still exist!)
