Ordering wheels...two backspace options
Ordering wheels...two backspace options
Ordering the wheels below in 20x9. They offer the following backspacing and offset: +25mm 5.98" and +10mm 5.39". Which would be best to go with Cooper Zeon 305/55/20? By the way, my truck is 2WD and I know I'll need a leveling kit. Also, I don't mind a little of tire extending past the fenders...but just a little for a meaty look. Thanks for the advice, it's very much appreciated.
We are about(tonight) to put a 20x8.5 wheel w/ Toyo 275/65/20s on my Dad's 07, no level kit. The biggest issue you will have is rubbing the rear of the front fender. I would tuck that wheel in as far as you can and not use such a wide tire on a 2wd. A stock wheel has a +45mm offset and big tires will rub control arms w/ stock wheels way before they will w/ aftermarket wheels.
Lets lay some numbers out so you can make an educated decision...
1) 265/70 R17 = 31.6x10.4x17 (stock tire size)
2) 305/55 R20 = 33.2x12x20 (tires are 1.6" taller & 1.6" wider)
3) A +25mm offset = 7mm (0.28") inner clearance & will stick out 33mm (1.28")
4) A +10mm offset = 22mm (0.86") inner clearance & will stick out 48mm (1.89")
The 25mm offset will rub the control arms on my truck with those tires. The 10mm offset will probably not rub anything on my truck with those tires but I have a 4x4 which makes a difference, your 2 wheel drive sits alot lower. Your best bet would be to level your truck then find a store that will let you test mount different size tires on rims with different offsets.
If you are going to try to stay with the stock offset:
- 8" rims are 45mm
- 9" rims are 32mm
- 10" rims are 20mm
My rims are 17x9 with 12mm offset with 285/75 R17 (33.8x11x17) and I barley rub on the passenger side air dam. Why it only rubs on that side I have no idea, it just does. I will be leveling it out next week so no biggie.
Heres some before and after pics to give you an idea how far a 10mm offset on a 9" rim will stick out....

Thanks for the feedback Tortured. I saw a Dodge 1500 2wd yesterday with Cooper Zeon 275/60/20 on it and I actually liked it. Maybe I should just get that size. I'm wanting a tire around 32-33" and Cooper offers the Zeon in 285/50 but that's going small that stock in diameter and I don't think that will look good on a mega. So in your final opinion which of my backspacing choices would push the tires out a little?

I'll send you a PM in a day or so, maybe you can take a couple pics for me. I'm not looking for a tire/wheel combination that sticks out that far (as in the pic)
). I've had 305/55/20s, 2 sets of 305/60/20s 35/12.50/20sMTs, and 285/75/17s
Oh, yeah my 1st set was 285/70/17s, but I didn't keep them long(too small), so that makes 5 sets for me and 1 for my father. He's the one putting on Toyo 275/65/20s on the 2wd tonight.
