Pyrometers don't read zero when the engine is off.

Sounds like normal operation if I understood you correctly.

Mines done that a few times and all I've done is shut down the truck and count to three then start it and the pyro's back to normal.

Yeah sounds normal to me! Mine dose the same thing, when it reads 250 its just reading the manifold temp. But sometimes just driving around mine takes a fit and reads way off like when it should be around 400 it reads 800 and then and with just alittle pressure on the skinny peddle it will jump to 1600like nothing while the TST is reading only 400-450 the whole time! But once i turn the key off it will reset itself and all is well again!

Optix gauges need a very good on-off circuit. If for some reason they receive enough power to not fully shut off and reset, they will keep on adding the start numbers. It is weird. After having a couple of problems with these, I started to run a separate relay just for the gauges. This ensures that they do not receive ANY power when the key is off. Then when the key is turned on, the relay is excited and the gauge receives it's power and then resets. After the relay power supply, never a problem again.

12 volt, 30 amp relay.

http://www.the12volt.com/relays/page5.asp#rtol

Go to "Connecting Additional Devices to the Remote Turn On Wire"

Put constant 12V+ to post 87. 87a will not be used. Post 30 will run to your gauge power wires (keyed and 12V+ constant). Post 85 goes to ground. Post 86 goes to key on 12V+.
