Opinion on turbo

I have an 03 3500 dually. I have a Banks 6 gun with speed loader and monster exhaust. Looking to do some upgrades on the truck to pull a heavier trailer. I am 22,000 pounds combined right now and the truck does just fine but i am looking to add a bit more weight with a two car trailer. I am already planning on adding an afe intake, wilson manifold and 120 hp ATS injectors. My question is this... Is the ATS Aurora 4000 turbo a good way to go for a single turbo set up??? Looking for about 40 pounds of boost as I don't want to have to worry about installing head studs. Want to get some better low end torque and a quicker spool up over the stock turbo.

I would not add 120hp injectors if you are dragging that kind of weight. Heck if you want real advice to get more down low to pull that kind of weight you should first upgrade your trans or clutch. Then if you want you may want to get some small mileage based sticks 40-60 hp and for the best performance for what you do the original BD towing twins. If anything will spool faster than stock they will.

Don't go with big injectors if you plan on pulling heavy loads any kind of distance. Do what Rye Thomas said and upgrade your tranny. I use to pull almost 26k on a daily basis and before I got my programmer I couldn't believe how well my truck pulled that kind of load. After the programmer was set to the "tow tune" I wondered how I ever made it without it. That was with a completely stock engine. I would never try to pull with large stix and a huge turbo. With that setup you're asking for a major meltdown. Now, if you were sledpulling it would be a wayyyy different story.

Thanks for the info guys. As for the trans, it's and automatic. I have already installed a billet input shaft and input hub along with some clutch and band stuff here at my shop. I also have a multi disk, low stall converter. So the trans is about as good as it's going to get unless I manufacture a new planetary to put in it.

I've been looking into the compound set up, and the more I read the more I feel it's the way to go. But why the smaller injectors???

The more fuel your dumping the hotter your exhaust will be, twins will help that, but, your starting off really high where as if you put even 90 hp sticks in you would have alot lower egt and still have more than enough Edit to pull anything with wheels. Pretty much your getting a little more for alot higher cost and risk of melting some high dollar aluminium.

Towing heavy with big sticks = high water temps and heat soak, doesn't matter how big your twins are.

Best bang for the buck would be to get rid of that Banks and get a good programmer. My 100hp sticks really are too big for towing heavy. I do it, and can keep it cool with Smarty on on 60hp @ a little over 30,000lbs, but the driveability is poor. I wouldn't want to let just anyone drive it.

I've actually been happy with the banks system. I know a lot of people on here aren't big fans of it. But to be fair, I have never driven a truck with lets say a smarty or edge or H&S so I have nothing to compare it to. Is there anything that can be stacked or piggy backed to the banks to give it a little more power???

I'd stay away from the big sticks just as everyone states.. My HTT does great with heavy loads. I haul in upwards to 30,000+.

Those are the temps you SEE.

What you don't see are the huge spikes in piston and valve temps. Those are bigger concern, too.
