So what does that new PMT from BD do? They call it a down loader, but it has in cab adjustability. At $1200 bones, it better have some incredible functionality. I like the look of the display, though.

JThiesen, why are you getting rid of the Quadzilla? Just curious, I just ordered a Smarty for my truck. Can't wait to try it out. I'm curious as to the gas mileage (level 2).

He said they have had some good success with them, and some bad, seems my truck is one of the ones that didn't like it. No one seems to know why it does crap on one truck and runs great on another so either way I got my cash back. Now I am wondering if I try this down loader thing again.

I am thinking about the smarty, just scared now of not getting the performance I want. Also wondering if the smarty raises rail pressure or not?? I am hoping that the Smarty box is the way to go, cant afford to waste 650 bucks.

Well any down sides to the smarty box?? any info would be great thanks all.
Try finding out if you stock ecm needs a software update. If it does this could be why the bd tuner interfaces with other trucks better.

Good point on the ecm, if it where the case you would have thought someone would have figured it out by now.

I continuously had dirty rotten stinkin luck with it. I think there must have been a gremlin machine between my place and Texas, 'cause I could never keep them working correctly. Yeah, they had good customer service, but one gets tired of having to pull the equipment out and send it back all the time.

Seems like you seem to know a lot about this. Looks like you post this kind of statements everywhere. The Triple Dog doesn't use the Outlook to adjust, it can adjust OTF without the Outlook.

For a fact there is at least 2 downloaders for Cummins that adjust on the fly right now. So I'm not sure where you get your info from.

Explain to me how you can upload a "new" program (fuel map, tranny data, boost table etc etc) while the current program is being used?

Every try installing Windows WHILE you using Word?

Can't be done...

The only thing that is "adjustible" with either the Outlook or the actual DL box while driving is a "smoke and mirrors" method of retarding the MAP and rail pressure sensor reading to fool the ecm into fueling less. It is NOT a different program. 50% setting on a 100 hp program is NOT the same as a 50hp download...and will not perform as well.

Belive what you want...just trying to help.

Technically, he's correct - you cant download a new program on the fly. Now, I dont know if that means your program cant have several settings within it that you can adjust on the fly (he mentioned one way).

Ding Ding Ding Ding......

My bet is that is exactly how they do it. You can't tell me that it's MAP defueling when you click on Crazy, or Scarry Larry from Stock on a Triple Dog. There's no way that kind of power could be controlled with MAP.
