ok took the BD back, interesting responce from the shop.

I called BD performance and they told me to take it to the shop I got it from since I was under my 30 days. After taking to the local shop guys he told me from time to time some 03's and 04's don't respond well to the x tuner. He said they have had some good success with them, and some bad, seems my truck is one of the ones that didn't like it. No one seems to know why it does crap on one truck and runs great on another so either way I got my cash back. Now I am wondering if I try this down loader thing again.

I am thinking about the smarty, just scared now of not getting the performance I want. Also wondering if the smarty raises rail pressure or not?? I am hoping that the Smarty box is the way to go, cant afford to waste 650 bucks.

Well any down sides to the smarty box?? any info would be great thanks all.

From what I understand only the new beta versions add pressure, but its a small amount. I rode in a truck with a smarty in it for the first time last Saterday and it fast. The only down side i can see is the lack of adjustability, since its a downloader.

How can you say lack of adjustability when you can download 24 different versions of the software depending on what you have and how much you want to tweak it and each version has 9 settings, thats 216 combinations to try and fine tune your truck to what you want. The only down side is uploading a new version, (but that only takes about 10 min) so no shift on the fly like a Bully.

Smarty if you have the bucks, Diablo if you don't....Smarty will definitely not disappoint on an 03...Diablo is alot cheaper though. ks

the downside to smarty? hmmm
constant need for new rear tires
calling lary and ordering the DD south bend
blowing every diesel that you see away(can get time consuming)
spending hours loading the many different programs to play with.

Funny thing, same thing happened to mine. Im in the market for the smarty soon enought since i want one once my buddy buys my chips. I rode with a local that had one and that truckmaks mine look slow. And he was stock except the exhaust and airbox.

At first I was concerned about the lack of on the fly adjustability with the SMARTY. But set to level 5 it seems to do everything that I need (and then some ).

Smarty is working great on my '04!

I just don't see how you can go wrong with it....

unless you don't watch your gauges, watch for cops, blow lots o' smoke in the Mayor's open window-- you get the idea

I too miss having in cab adjustability. But I suspect it may indirectly halp me sustain my stock drivetrain for a bit longer as I no longer have the ability to give in to temptation and "just switch it to 9 for a second"......

The newer trucks have the same issues with boxes. For some reason my truck hates every box I put on it but when I put the box on another truck it does just fine. So far my truck likes the Predator/Puck so I am hesitant to download the newest version that gives the ability to adjust on the fly. The Smarty seems to be the hot ticket right now if you have the $$$ but any of you that know me over the past few years know that I am a tightwad when it comes to mods. I want them but I want them cheap........
I am getting my South Bend clutch put in this weekend by Timinva!!!!! WooHoo!!!!!!

NO downloader is truely in cab adjustable...don't let the smoke and mirros trick from the outlook monitor fool you.
