DC responce to E17 recall

http://199.79.180.162/prepos/files/A...5V462-9083.PDF

Here is all of the pages about this recall

http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/pr...fsDocId=05V462

If you read the letter DC sent to the NHTSA you will see they were basically giving them "lip service" to shut the NHTSA up.
I want to know why it only pertains to Diesel Rams Aren't the Gas and Diesel the same truck(parking lever included)?

It says 250,433 units may be affected. I knew the Diesel was popular but I didn't know its that popular!
ONLY 223 "incidents" were noted. Out of those only 21 personal injuries actually happened.
So.... because of 21 people out of a quarter of a million owners this is their fix!

So 21 people did not put the truck in park and it moved so it's DC's fault? Hell I have been in a hurry and have done the same thing and not put it in park all the way on many different brands of cars and truck so does that mean all of them are faulty?

Just my $0.02

I think DC had to to please them. So they thought of this recall.
Even with the recall the truck can still be put in reverse and run people over.

Well I have had this situation happen to me a couple of times, ont time I placed the vehicle in park, put the parking brake on fully and left the engine running was gone fro 5 mins into the store.
It backed into a concrete barrier with no effects other then my hitch chipped the concrete.
After wards I checked both the park brake and the shifter. The park brake worked fine and so did the shifter.

looking into the situation, I found that the shifter can be placed in park, and yet not catch the pawl, Even though it does feel like it did. The same can be said about shifting the gears, you can shift into a gear and have no indication or response even though you are shifted.

To come out and say the persons didnt shift it properly . I do not beleive to be true in all the cases. Maybbe some but not all.

You guys really need to get your heads out of your Butts.

I guess injector failures havent occured, nor powersterring problems, CP3 problems air conditioning problems to list a few.
Or maybe those are blamed on the person also.

My Truck has never run away on me BUT... I have noticed that the Shifter is locked into park but the little square is not around the "P" on the indicator..

I understand that this is partially because the park lever is not directly (mechanically) attached to the transmission.. If the solenoid in the trans is not completly in park that fluid can bleed over and push the solinoid into reverse.. causing this situation.. So instead of fixing the problem they put in this Warning system so people can get out of the way of the truck while it is running away in reverse...

I have had the same problem. They should have used something other than the horn though, like maybe the seatbelt chime and blinking dome lights??? Anything but the horn.

I have a 6 speed so I have no personal experiance with this problem but from my reading on it, it seems as if the problem started when they removed the cable and went to an electronc shif system. People swear up and down it was in park an fell into reverse after sitting for a bit running. If I had to venture a guess I would say the solinoid responsible for shifting the tranie was not adjusted properly or just flat out not strong enough to get the job done. If the shift valve in th etranie does not get put into park and held there buy the solinoid it could very esaly fall into reverse while running after the driver had thought the truck was in park. It may not happen rite away if it is a vibration caused problem. It may be on th ehump so to speak between reverse and park and the vibrations may cause it to slip into reverse after it had been sitting ideling for a while. It may also be caused buy a leaky seal on the valve. If it is not fully locked into park and oil is allowed to seap past the seal to the wrong side of the valve it may push it into revurse after a little bit of idle time. Neither of these posobilitys would be an isue while the truck is not running due to no vibrations and no preasure in the tranie. I undersand it to be a mechanical problem that a honking horn will not fix.

That's Chrysler, fixing what's not broke but not fixing what's actually broke. I want some of what they're smoking.
