Noise after AFE install

I installed my new stage 2 AFE intake kit last week. I took it on a long trip and blew a hole in the rubber coupler. I replaced it with a blue silicone one. But since installing the kit i now hear a loud air releasing sound when i get on it hard. Any idea what it could be?

You have a boost leak probably from one of the other intercooler boots.

Is it making the sound while you are still in it or is it after you get on it hard and right when you let off? If it does while you are still in it then I agree, you have a boost leak coming from somewhere. If it does it right when you let off after being on it hard then it is normal.

I'm curious though, how did you "blow" a hole in the boot in the first place? Do you have the black blow molded plasctic tube that is 6" necked down to 4" to the turbo inlet with only that one boot right at the turbo?

That is correct. The rubber boot blew, while I was pulling my 16k toy hauler. Something went wrong with my Edge just before it happened, the Edge locked up. I believe the boost went way up. The noise i'm hearing happenes when it shifts into O-drive. Makes the noise just for a second, then its gone.

It may be normal then. Between shifts it will make a noise that is very distinct. Six speeds do it often becasue of such a lag between shifts, clutch in, shift, clutch out and so on. Automatics shift quickly and you don't get it as much. It is basically the pressure or boost coming back through the intake. It will only do this if you are on the throttle fairly heavy. One guy descibed it as the turbo slowing down very quickly causing the boost to come back through the intake because the pressure between the intake and the intercooler was so great that with the throttle closed, the boost or pressure took the path of least resistance which is back through the intake air filter. Sorry for the run on sentence.

I would talk to Edge to make sure that the box didn't over boost your system including your intake manifold and/or your intercooler. If you get the noise while you are still building boost then you have a leak. In any case I would keep an eye on things for now.

I'm hearing a noise also. When I'm on it hard I hear a loud squeel that it not normal turbo whistle. It is intermeddant and I have had some boost issues with TST wastegate plumbing. Looks like wheater really affects boost when the air is good boost goes to 39 which I understand is the highest computer will read. I am thinking about hooking wastegate back to stock electronic deal.
