No Gauges What Chip is Best?
I was just thinking the same thing. I just bought a 05 Dodge 4x4 QC and after reading posts like this I'm questioning the wisdom of my purchase. I'm keeping it stock until the warranty runs out, but if I have to put gauges on to watch temps while I'm towing I think I might go back to gas!!!
Back to gas?
That would be drastic and you would miss us. On the gauge issue, I think there are those who err on the side of caution, certainly not a bad thing. Among that group however, there are those who think that not erring way over on their side of caution means you are reckless and OH MY GOD IT'S GOING TO BLOW!! More often than not they have no idea where the failure point is of the part they think they are protecting. I used to work at chysler doing R&D at the headquarters in detroit. I've seen the manifolds glowing and nearly translucent....for days on end. If you doubt that a manifold, downpipe or the turbo can take that kind of heat...go down to the nearest endurance race and look at the turbo charged cars when they come off the track. Better yet, go watch a daytona 24 hours, or sebring 12. At night, our exhausts from the manifold to the turbo and out the downpipe are glowing so red you can work on the motor from the light output.
In short, don't sweat those who are quick to prophetize doom...they likely wouldn't know doom if it walked up and kissed them on the mouth. Drive on man...your truck can take it or it wouldn't have the reputation it does. Tell a hotshotter that his rig will melt down if he doesn't have a guage...he will laugh and point at the 500,000 miles on the clock....most of it towing.
