I understand punishing the dealers for selling under the $675 threshold, but that's pretty dirty to punish the customer. I paid $8,000 less than the sticker price on my truck when I bought it. Does that mean Dodge should not honor my warantee?

Thank the lord!
Oh yeah, mine was used . . . or at least it is now
I would agree that punishing the consumer isn't the correct way to handle the price problem(s) with Smarty. The problem isn't the consumer's problem, it's the company and its network of distributors. I don't agree with price fixing something to "protect the small guy" - buy local if you want to protect the small guy. If the company wants to keep the price point UP then they need to sell direct to the consumer at their price and/or raise the dealer/wholesale cost to reflect that price point.

IIRC Mads is not voiding your warranty, you will not get any North American support. You will need to ship your Smarty to Italy which could be costly and tie things up for weeks on end. Bob spoke on this subject a while ago in another thread.

Matego, you may be correct about that. I forgot about that thread. Sorry Price Dog, that one's on me.
On edit; It took me a bit to find this. Bob adresses the issue of where to send it about post 36 but the thread is a good read if you're thinking about a smarty and have any questions about their support.

The question begs to be asked: If someone doesn't have the orginal receipt for their Smarty (i.e. you bought it used), then how would MADS know how much you paid for it? Or is nothing covered without a receipt? If there is a receipt, wouldn't it be better customer service to warranty the product (regardless of purchase price) directly to the consumer. That way if MADS sees a "lower price" on the invoice/receipt they can take it up directly with the dealer and impose their own penalty/fee/etc? Just doesn't make sense for unsuspecting consumers to be hurt by this imposition. Had I walked in and purchased the product over the counter for the same price I wouldn't have had the opportunity to be educated on the price issue. Ouch. Sorry, off the soapbox . . . gotta' go check the Smarty, I'm trying out a new program

Well, there's that little issue of the serial number. They know which dealers got which Smarties. Like Matego pointed out, you'll get service, just might not be in the US.

Fair enough. I have a feeling this thing could break my truck before I break it. Got the new software loaded and the played around a little bit. Going back to safe settings now, but I can certainly see how people get addicted to building trucks. I'm feeling a bit of the sickness myself . . .
