new turbo and toys....talk me through this.

Finally got my SPS 6280 (62/14) installed....as well as an ATS 2 piece manifold...and a bunch of other junk.

Attempted to run TST/ Crazy Larry stack. This stack worked fine for roughly the first 30 minutes of run time on the truck....then I get HORRIBLE timing rattle. (former Smarty owner, See Luken's thread about that) I'm thinking the 30 minute thing is the TST adjusting to the truck....probably something like what Morkable made mention of in another thread (long story)....ok so can't run them together, lets try them seperately:

TST 7/7: Take off power is basically stock...get around 25 psi and the boost shoots to 48-50 almost instantly...then the boost goes back to like 20psi...all while I my foot is steady on the throttle. Yes it does accelerate ok...tranny shifts very well with the TST. Its like its stock power or LOTS of pull at 25psi or higher...if you haven't figured out by now, this is TST standard programming on an R47. Powerband is touchy once you hit that 25psi mark....didn't feel very comfortable to me driving down the highway passing cars.

OK, Crazy Larry ON! TST OFF......power down low is there...all the way to the top. From 70, go to half throttle, wait for the turbo to catch up which is like a second or 2 IF that...and then its 85-90mph in a hurry! No need to floor it to pass cars anymore...it zips right around at half throttle! Loved the way it drove...very predictable power band...loved it. As the problem with all downloaders on my truck, the shifting can be goofy in town due to the electronic actuator on the 05+ trucks instead of the kick down cable on the 03-04's. This doesn't always happen, just occasionally.

saw a friend from college and got next to him at a light..so I had to play some on Crazy Larry. Smoke cloud was twice as big as stock until the turbo caught up...and then i was sideways in a hurry!

Heres my dilemma....

Pay $175+shipping to TST for the upgrade to R49 status so i could have adjustable timing and Pray that adjustable timing would fix my timing rattle with the TST/Crazy Larry stack.....

OR

Pay $100+shipping for the Scary Larry upgrade and then stack an EZ...yes acook I liked your idea Based off of what I have read here, Scary Larry + turbo + tranny + fuel + pressure box = high 12's. Throw in my stage II snow kit...and I'd hope for mid 12's.

What would you do? I want opinions and feedback on my setup

My truck now has a different exhaust note due to the ATS manifold...which I LIKE. its different from stock and maybe a little lower tone....i really like it actually. HOWEVER, after 2000 rpms on the highway I now have drone pretty bad. This is good in a way, keeps from me speeding since 2k in my truck is around 74mph anyway.

I LOVE my DiProcols compared to the Autometer Phantom II's.

Snow Stage II kit is not on the truck yet....thats this week or next week's project...as well as the studs.

Thanks 06dmc for the intercooler...its finally installed as well.

For some reason you have more problems with the big boy box's than anyone I know. I personally love my TST but it's a completely different animal than yours. Since you've had such great luck with the bullydog I'd stick with them. Goes back to the if it ain't broke don't fix it motto.

On a side note, how are the EGT's with your turbo? I might be looking at an upgrade if I can't figure this noise out from my ksb-1.

the TST works, no arguement there...just prefer the style of the Bullydog...maybe i'm just weird....yea probably just weird

In all the playing I have done so far, i haven't passed 1100*....but I haven't really done a WOT 0-speed limiter run yet either. James played with it during that 30 minutes of no timing rattle....and he went 0-90mph and saw 1200* (TST on 5/0 with Crazy Larry) whenever he looked at the gauge and wasn't scared....he did this on the street in front of his shop...you know the area

I run into the same things you do about the tst causing rattle. R49 upgrade did not fix it. The runs in my sig are from crazy larry and press only. If you take the low end boost off the crazy larry or go back to a 2.2.7 download your tranny will shift much better. If you need a copy of 2.2.7 let me know, it is no longer available to download. Tim your the man. I thought 2.7 didn't shift like the new one does...I think i have a version on email like 2.3 that was never released to the public....Let me look.....in the mean time, please email it to me at Johndeere5205@yahoo.com

I'm looking to go to the Scary Larry and I'm nervous how that will shift. I don't use the low end option because of the shifting.

Do you have any solutions to the electronic actuator? James Northum and I don't

Sent it to your e mail. You may have to delete your computer if you have a newer program on it, then download the one I sent you. I have the best luck with 2.2.7 and I have tried them all. I know what you mean about the electronic actuator. It was so much easier with a cable set up. I have mine close but it will still act up sometimes. I have probably had my v/b out 5 times to get it where it is. Tim

Thanks Tim I really appreciate it.

one of my buddys just came over and wanted a ride...so we went. I turned the TST up a little to show him the rattle....well this time not only did it rattle, it continued to rattle nasty even after I had left off the throttle. Check the classifieds for the TST. No more! Injectors and crazy larry just might be the ticket for me!

I think that if you run the scary larry you will be back to the newer software, which really seems to make a good tranny shift ,,, well like sh*t. That is why I got rid of the triple dog and went with the predator. You can get it tuned up to put out the same hp as the scary larry. But with my hot Juice and the predator,, it is scary fast!

Im glad to hear about that exhaust manifold I have been thinking of upgrading mine and now I am quite sure that I will.

With the edge on 5 and the predator on extreme stack tune I am getting well over 55 psi out of my 6280 and pull like a ,,,, well you know what I mean

Scary Larry...I have no clue what software that is. It was developed a long time ago on the Pinks truck....so maybe its the older version...or maybe not....Thats why I like Tim's setup of the old CL version with injectors.

I kept my tst as a boost fooler and turbo timer. But I might clear some of the wiring out and just get the quad fooler. You can make all the egt and power you want with a 2.2.7 and fluxs. No need for the scary larry. Add a little press and your snow kit and it will scream. You will be hitting your top speed govn, that will be the next obsticle. Tim

Scary Larry is a new developmental software (I believe) that bullydog has recently done. (there has been some posts on it here not too long ago.) I am not totally sure, but, I am fairly sure that it is newer than the version that tim is talking about. I just really, reaaallly didnt like the way that my truck started to behave after I put in my good tranny. Just my 02 cents.

I am getting another set of injectors made for me from dpp. Barry at NADP is good friends with the fellow from DPP, and he is working together with him to figure out a better set of injectors for me. I want to try the snow kit too, but just for towing,, I dont think I will use it for racing, if I feel the need for something extra racing I think I will put a small shot of nitrous on

will our turbo hold nitrous? I was told to buy a silverbullet 62 if i intended to use nitrous.

Don M is in Dallas, relatively very close to me. Fluxes it is...if I go with injectors.

You cant go wrong with fluxes,, I wanted a set, but I couldnt get a set made up soon enough so I went with the dpp. Our turbo is plenty strong enough for nitrous
