New Gauge Problems

I order a new set of gauges from di pricol. Took the truck to a local shop to install them all. Well they got done today and i picked the truck up but my egt gauge is ridiculously high. I mean crazy high. When i first cranked the truck up it was reading 10! at first i kinda just thought it was weird and blew it off but once i got it on the road it didn't change. At cruising speeds it was reading like 14 and before i got all the way to half throttle it would peg out way past 16. Theres no way this is right..... right? Not to experienced or knowledgeable with electronics or gauges, which is why i had someone else install them. But what could the problem be. I've never heard of this happening before so just wanted to check up on it.

Mine does the same thing...it will start out reading normal...then the needle will start to flutter a bit, then slowly rise and stay in the 1200 and above areas, even when idling. Gauges are Di-Pricol Optix bought from Geno's. Shutting down the truck and restarting (power cycling the gauge) usually resets it (it reads normal) for at least 20 minutes or so. Anyone have any ideas?

My brother has the same problem with his Banks gauge. I wonder if these issues have anything to do with having a good ground, or maybe the ending units are grounding out?

Try tracing the wires from the power source to the sending unit/gauge. It might be something simple. Or better yet, take it back to the shop. They could re-trace the wires a lot faster and tell you if the install was good.

Man its really not gonna sit well if this gauge is just flat out not working. I've only had it back for about 5 hours now so maybe something will change. Im hoping someone will say its just not put in right and ill be able to fix. Im really not gonna want to have to order a new one. Mine hasn't hasn't even been lower that 800* yet. It acts like its reading right..... only its 4 or 5 hundred degrees to high!

I say take it back to the shop. They should be able to tell you if the gauge is bad...or sending unit. Or maybe the probe? But I've never heard of those going out.

Just put my DiPricols in as well, normal idling is about 300, had it up to 1200 once. Something deffinately wrong with yours.

sounds like they may have placed the probe in too far. If I remember right, the probe should go in all the way then back it out 1/4". If this is not the issue, your sending unit (probe) may have an integrity problem.....the casing may be cracked, the tip could have been bent/broken on install....

if your not getting a good ground then the guage is not being able to zero its self when you start it up this is what it sounds like is happening with skydiver41's gauge. thermocouple are very unpredictable you can place a volt meter across the leads of the thermocouple to check to saee if you have continuity and also check the resistance i forget what the values for the thermocouple is suppose to be. you can also test the output voltage at idel and see if it is running high. it should be in millivolts hope you get it fixed

well i took it back to the shop today and they were kinda stubborn about stuff. All they said was the gauge was right and the truck was just running that hot. Told them there was no way but i didn't wanna argue, im still a little frusterated tho. I guess now ill just make sure the probe is put in right and go from there. Can anyone clear up the right way to install the probe just so i can be sure.

Well,,, by what you just said, I would NEVER take anything back to that bunch of idiots again!! Your Truck would be in flames right now if you were running around at 1400 1500 deg's all the time!! Check the Grounds, call DiPricol and see what they have to say! Something is not right at all with the thermocouple or the wiring. Definatly check the ground though!!

Also make sure that the 2 leads on the thermocouple are not grounding out in any way.. Check the connection at the 2 little nuts and bolts.. a thermocouple is millivolts.. connections need to be clean and tight.

yeah im not to happy wiht the situation. ill check everything i can tommorow and call diesel manor as soon as i can to see what they have to say. it's starting to be very easy to see why things are always better when you just do it yourself instead of leaving it up to other people. thanks for all the advice and if anyone has some more, please share
