I was pulling a 8-11% grade friday, i pulled the truck down to second gear manually,and the rpm's went past redline to about 3500rpm for about 3-5 seconds. The truck runs fines, i was just wondering if this would do any damage? Thanks..Justin

 

since you weren't under high boost when it happened, probably not. valve to piston contact can happen in some situations, but you're probably fine.

 

Thanks J.P. I am glad to hear it. I know the 5.9 can take some abuse, just didn't know how much.

 

The CTD has a 100% duty cycle at rated speed - 3500 RPM.

 

The auto tranny should have an electronic interlock on downshifting at too high RPM. You should be able to downshift to first and the tranny won't shift until the engine can handle the RPMs.

 

If it makes you feel better there are programmers that raise the RPM limiter to 4000 on the HPCR's. There are some engine mods you should do first though.
