need help trying to figure out what is wrong with my truck

It is a 03 dodge with a edge hot juice on it and a sps 62, what it is doing is when it idles up it starts to fluctuate and idles rough, i also have noticed the truck makes more black smoke than usual and i can make the engine temp climb up faster than normal. I also have noticed that it is slower to make boost and boost is not as high as it used to be , boost is down by about 8 lbs. any help would be appreciated

Bad FCA possibly? Many guys on here will know better than I!

However I've seen a truck with a bad FCA that acted exactly like that. I think the part was like $70 from a Cummins dealer..

Do a search for bad fca and see if any of the symptom fit. Sounds like it to me though.

I can just about promise you that you have a boost or drive pressure leak. Look for any soot around the flange that connects your turbo to the exhaust manifold. This area would have been cleaned when the new turbo went on. If there is any soot at all you have a drive pressure leak and you might ruin your turbo like I did to mine. Run your finger around the entire flange especially behind where you can't see and if your finger has any black soot on it you need the bolts and studs retightened. There is also a known problem that the original studs from the stock turbo are too long and will not tighten all the way down. II sends new bolts but some installers don't see them or think they are not needed. Good Luck and I hope your turbo isn't thrashed with cracks like my first one. Tom J.

Have you removed the Edge Hot Juice off to see if truck runs normal?

Have you messed with your boots on the intake side of the motor? I had a leak where it connects to the intake horn and it acted pretty similar. And if the boot comes off it sounds like a cannon going off under the hood.

Also there is a way to check your prv and your FCA without replacing it. Alot of people just order a cap for the rail to replace the prv as they are like $300 bucks if I remember right. Do a search on here. Or PM me if you dont find anything. I went through all this diagnosing what might be a bad fuel pump not so long ago.
