Need Advise on Possible Overdrive Clutches Slipping

Can anyone who has experienced overdrive clutches slipping explain what that feels/sounds like? I tried an insane power combination yesterday and experienced some bucking in overdrive at WOT above 2K RPMs. The truck pulled extremely well in overdrive up to that point. The road was wet due to rain and initially I thought the tires were breaking loose as it felt like short, consistent jerks. I put the truck in 4X4 high and tried it again and same thing. Next thought was that the combination just wasn't working and the engine was cutting out. I can't remember exactly what was going on with RPMs at the time as I thought about this after the fact, but I don't remember the RPMs fluctuating downward during this, leading me to believe the engine was not cutting out, but maybe the overdrive clutches were slipping. They are still stock and have been seriously abused, so I'm leaning in that direction. I just don't know what kind of symptoms that would produce. I assume there is not a way to verify that they are slipping without tearing into the trans.

That leads to question number two. Given that they are "overdrive" clutches, I assume they are not in use unless your in overdrive. So, if it is an engine/fuel problem, it should be reproducible at the same RPM level in say 3rd with overdrive locked out….correct?

Thanks.

Yes, they were slipping.
Eventually you will lose OD all together if you repeat the process to make them slip.
You need to modify your tranny.
I would already suggest a rebuild.
