Unhappy Tranny Slipping in Overdrive

Last night coming home from Sacramento, I noticed that the tranny was slipping when driving in overdrive. This has never happened.

If i need a rebuild, where to look? also... What is the average cost for service and rebuilt tranny? This is a bummer.

I dont know if the tranny was ever rebuilt, there is about 225-thousand miles on the truck.

Should i try to find a stick shift?

Thanks for any help!
Regards
Tom

cost is dependent on the the parts you put into it. expect at least 1500-2000 for a stock rebuild. If you going to rebuild it i would recommend putting in a better torque converter and valve body/shiftkit.

at 225k I'd go through the whole thing, if it is just o/d you can have back half gone through. I'd advise against the later and have the trans rebuilt by a quality shop. Problems have all been seen and fixed so the trans will be more trustworthy. Buying a new trans from a dealer will get you the exact same spec that came in your truck, no modifications, fixes etc.Be prepared, $2k at least.
stuff a trans temp gauge in it too. puttin a stick in you have the cost of fly wheel, clutch and installing clutch linkage also.(not fun i have switched over a few to manual and the clutch linkage setup was always the pain)

Check the tv cable going to the trans. It has a small white clip on the topside to adjust for line pressure. Should be done at regular intervals. Any haynes or chiltons will have adjustment procedure. I was getting lots of tranny slip until I adjusted the cable properly. good luck.

Thanks Guys, Really nice to hear from you. I appreciate your help.
I'll be calling around.

Would like to upgrade some parts like mentioned.
I'm sure a fresh tranny feels much better than an older one that needs rebuild.
Seems my truck in third (not OD) needs too much pedal for small trailer, like it is working against it self. Overdrive has never been a problem till last night... after driving near 350 miles, it didn't start slipping till 2 miles from home.

That would have been a drag driving all the way back going only 55.
