My new Xzillaraider and EGT's

First let me say WOW this box (standard) is awesome. This is the first real mod I have done to my truck. The install was easy and I didn’t get any codes. As for mounting…don’t ask. I haven’t completed that part yet.

I do have a question. When I keep my foot in it, my EGT’s can get up to 1300+ very quick. (pre-turbo) What is the best way to lower them? Keeping my foot off the gas is not a solution. I’ve tried this method, but it’s just not a good solution. I have a stock air box and I think I will start here, but we do a lot of dry camping on very dusty roads and I am concerned about keeping the air clean. I also cannot spend a ton of money here, since I barely convinced the wife the box will “help” in towing. Any suggestions?

p.s. Towing a 10K fiver in 60hp mode is a breeze. What a difference

Lathe guy,

Sounds like my first impression of the race box I installed last week. Sweeet-
I dont know of a cheap route, but I put a MBRP 304 SS full exhaust sytem ($780 delivered) on the truck the next day. I also have the AFE filter. I can say the new exhaust lowered the temps but I can still get high egt's just not as fast as the stock restrictive exhaust. You can always buy the aluminized series for like $350 but I wont last as long, especially in salt country (winters)

IMO, I dont think the filter does much- I just like the fact that it is cleanable.

As for the wife- I sneaked the box but the exhaust system wasn't as easy. She new it the first time I started it. Anyways good luck!

I'm running the standard quad box also and am doing some light towing (5-6k) on the 60hp setting with no EGT problems. I've got the Scotty III w/Uni filter and really like it. I took the Uni-filter out over the weekend and checked my intake hose for oil film and dirt and found none (wiped it down with a white towel and it came out clean). I really like the whole Scotty III system and would recommend that you make that upgrade.

You might also look at upgrading your muffler to a more free flowing type. My understanding is that the remainder of your exhaust, including the cast elbow on the turbo, should be 4" and allow pretty good flow. I've got the smaller exhaust system on my 305hp motor and will be upgrading to 4" in the future.

Also, I've noticed that on the 100hp setting with no load, when you put the go pedal to the floor the EGTs climb to 1200ish very fast. Above that, it seems difficult to get the EGTs to actually exceed 1300. I won't run my truck at 1300 all day, but I'm not going to worry if it gets there a few times.

I just got off of restriction with my credit card from the wife. So I'm sorta in the same boat, the wife bit off on me installing the box, because I could get it at the Beta testers price. As for the exhaust, I cant quite push that off on her yet because I just spent 150.00 on shocks and 400.00 on my step rails. My wife has a keen ear also, sneaking in a new exhaust system or even a muffler is sorta out of the question. I'll give it a month or two before I approach her about it. Gotta keep the peace around here.

Funny stuff, I thought I was the only one who had to sneak things past the minister of finance. I straight piped mine in the winter and one night when we went out for dinner I went outside and fired it up to warm up, she was on me as soon as I walked in the door. She'll never admit it but I think she likes it, doesn't even roll her eyes at me anymore when I roll down the back pass window!

Pull U 2,

Save yourself some money and get an easier to install performance muffler to boot! The MBRP 2004.5 + replacement muffler bolts right into place on the Dodges and even reuses the factory rubber mounting locations. It's built from 409 stainless and is packed with ceramic blanket and stainless steel wool. We even have a cat test pipe for off roader and racers in 409 stainless and aluminized too! The muffler has no drone, drops EGT's way fast and even looks like it came from the factory. Call us if you have any questions etc.
