It has been my experience that the larger and heavier tires your mileage goes down.

well.....

I have a 2" leveling kit and 35 inch tires on my truck. As far as mileage goes, my city mpg got worse (slightly) and my highway mpg got MUCH, much better! As long as you stay around 55mph, the extra weight, height and wind resistance (and rolling resistance of the bigger tires) wont penalize you too badly. Because you have changed your gear ratio to a taller one with these tires, your highway RPM's will be substantially less with these bigger tires. That equates to less fuel burned per mile.

Now, if you drive at 70mph, the truck has to exert more effort at that raised height to push thru the wind, possibly negating your fuel economy gains. Just my 2 cents, your mileage may vary.

Once diesel went over 4 bucks a gal I started looking at 33s and taking the leveling kit off mine but I didnt like the looks of them(plus with the price of all new tires it would take forever to brake even and save money with the little milage increase I would see), I think are trucks with 35s and a leveling kit look SWEET. I have a quad box with the milage max setting and I can squek out just over 16 around town but thats driving like a grandpa. As for highway you can say goodbye to 21 unless you like to drive 55, I keep it around 65 and on flat ground I got 20 once, driving to the hill country I can get upper teens, 17-18 sometimes 19 if I dont have much with me and I have a tail wind. But for the look and size of my truck I think thats pretty dang good, I have friends with 2wd 1/2 tons that cant get the milage I get in a lifted 3/4 ton 4x4.

For my truck with the 315 BFGs and a 2 inch spacer, I saw 18 MPG if I never exceeded 65 MPH on the highway. Now, with the 35 inch Toyo MTs and 4.5 inch lift, I see about 15.5 or so average. I think the heavier Toyo tire and the lift compounded with the extra power of the Smarty have all conspired to cost me more money at the pump....

I consistently run on the freeway at about 80 and get right at 18. Town driving went down from about 15 to about 13. But most of the time I dont drive like an old man in town.

I've got a 6" lift and am also running 35" tires. I usually get between 16 and 18 but sometimes as much as 22 believe it or not.

Before.... never below 20 MPG, usually 22 or so. After... 16-18.

I am running a 12.5x35 which is a lot wider than a 315. I think thats what is killing me is the extra rubber on the road.
