Mag-Hytec ?'s

So I bought the DD pan....and have some questions before I install it.

1) Has anyone re-used the factory gasket before? If it's anything like the OEM diff gasket, I think it would seal as good or better than the gasket they provided. Or, am I better off using their gasket?

2) OIL: I hear of people buying Mopar ATF+4 at walmart...is this true? The local wally world carries NO ATF. Only motor oil?

3) Is it 9 quarts to refill the DD pan?

Thanks!

Tony

TonyB,

I have the MH on the rear diff. on my '03. The o-ring works well. I have RedLine synthetic fluid, in it & not one drop has ever leaked out. The seal seems to be very good.

Regarding the Mopar ATF+4, I have never seen it here in the North Phoenix, Glendale area WalMarts. The Mopar fluid, from the dealer, will probably be very expensive. I was able to get the RedLine for about $7.00 bucks a qt.

Tony,

You can reuse the gasket that came on your truck. I think yours already came with a rubber gasket which is reusable. Mine was cork and I reused it several times, but bought a new rubber one at the dealer last time.

That is where I buy my Mopar ATF +4. I just negotiate with the parts guy and buy it for about $20 a gallon. You can get it at Walmart but I think they just sell quart jugs...not gallons.

Should take around 9-10 quarts when just dropping the pan and refilling. The MH holds 4 quarts over stock. I always buy more than I need and just use it next time.

Tony,
I run the valvoline in mine and I haven't had any problems with it.

Thanks for the replies!

Buffalo, there is no oring on the DD trans pans! I was a little disappointed with that! Oh, well.

TexasCTD, thanks...that's what I was thinking.

rjm022, thanks...forgot about napa.

Rob C, where do you get the valvoline ATF+4?

Thanks!
