The Loudest Muffler
I just drove my brother-in-law's 2003 3500. It is straight piped, I was loaded with a 24' cattle trailer. This was just a bit, just a very LITTLE bit too loud. Is there any type of muffler I can put on to make it sound very near straight piped, but toned down JUST a hair?
I have heard a lot about the Aerobine ( I think thats right, working from bad memory here )
Thanks for any info!

I have the Aeroturbine installed right behind the cat which sounds very good IMO, has a deep mellow sound until you get on it then it roars....not annoying but a loud powerful sound.

Areoturbine sounds exelent. I have it as far back as it will go and there is no drone at all. At idle it is quieter than the stock mufler ... to me anyway... but it has a nice deep rumble when you get on it. Even under load it never gets to loud in side the cab. I still need to hear it with some one driving the truck and me out side though.

I had mine straight-piped and it was too loud and raspy for my tastes. What I did was went to my local muffler shop and had them install a 4"X24" glass pack. You can install it one of two ways, with the scallops inside facing forward (quieter) or rearward (louder). I did mine forward and the tone is deep and powerful with no rasp or drone. Its also fairly inexpensive. I think I paid about $45.00 for the muffler plus installation. I have my CAT removed also and this will increase the sound level. This setup is only slightly louder at idle buts sounds awesome when you apply the throttle.

BlackSunShyne,
We have the MBRP mufflers that are packed with a ceramic blanket and stainless steel wool, they are available in aluminized and 409 SS in 30 inch and 18 inch. You will have to do a little fab work to fit a stock system but it will quiet it down.

Thats MR Hoss to you buddy!
The MBRP muffler is about as close to straight piped as you can get without actually straight piping it. I think Mark was saying that it would quieten things down a bit compared to straight piping.
I've never heard a truck with Aeroturbine, but I've been pleased with the sound of my MBRP system (even though at first I didn't like it).

I was in the same situation as you are, I had my 03 straight piped but didn't like the raspy rice burner sound at higher rpm's. Therefore I cut off the old 3 1/2" pipe just after the down pipe and placed a 3 1/2" to 4" adapter on and ran 4" pipe back past the cab and then installed a Dynomax 4" Bullet Race Muffler (from JEGS Performance for $40.00). It now has a little deeper tone than straight piped and absolutely NO raspy sound what so ever. Almost exact same sound as straight piped (but deeper).
My truck has been this way now for about a year and I am very pleased with the exhaust sound both while cruising and towing my TT.
