I installed an ATS stage 3 with a 5 star converter. immediately, I lost low end (below 1700rpm). The truck used to give you whiplash, if you quickly mash the pedal from a stop. After the transmission install, you could push the truck faster from dead stop until about 1700 rpm, then it launches. Also, before the 1700 rpm, it bellows black smoke bad. It acts like the stall is less than 1400. Anyone had similar issues, or have ideas how to fix. I have restored factory program, and re-installed tow and performance economy tunes, but the problem lies.

 

I am guessing the converter is much tighter than stock like my goerend. It will not change unless you install a looser converter. It will seem better if you crank up the power though.

 

KKB is right,thats why I never understand why so many people go low stall and end up complaining about how the truck now wont get outa its own way.I made the same mistake with a suncoast tranny on my PSD.Higher stall is your only cure,cranking up the power will just add more smoke.
