Question ATS 5 Star vs. Suncoast

Which one would i be better off with for weekend warrior drag racing. I plan on making around 650-750 HP eventually. Im getting ready to purchase an hts transmission tomorrow and dont know if i should use their suncoast converter, or buy an ats 5 star. Can anyone tell me what the pros and cons are for the 2 converters? Price is not a concern cuz its only a $90 difference between the 2 for me.

HTS has a lot of experience with the really high HP stuff and drags and pulls. I'd go with what they recommend for that HP.

Check of goerend.com. They sell a triple disk with a lifetime warranty no matter what happens to it. Great service from what I have read also. That is where I would buy my parts from.

That's what ATS says now,... until it actually goes then ???

Some folks here have had difficulty getting ATS to stand behind stuff. Not bashing them too badly though...

I was going to get a 5 star until I started hearing some of the experiences. Obviously I got Goerends.

After driving both I prefer the feel of the suncoast.I think you will find more of the faster drag trucks running suncoast as well.

So far i think there is about a tie. 2 for suncoast and 2 for ats. Is there any benifit i might see with 5 friction disc vs. 3 friction disc? Ide much rather get all my trans needs taken care of at 1 place than go fishing for parts here and there. So unless there is a big difference between the 2 im gonna go for the suncoast. If suncoast uses them in their high power drag trucks, It should do fine in my truck...right?? At least thats what i figure. Plus i guess the $90 difference could to towards a tank of fuel, or trans fluid after i break it in.

I researched all this for a couple of years before I pulled the trigger and all I can say is that between the 2 you have listed I would go w/ Sun Coast, no doubt. I just installed a Sun Coast convertor about a month ago and I would do it again in a second. I was down between Sun Coast and another VERY popular manufacturer here, but after 3 weeks of waiting for a return phone call...... well, you get the point.

Word to the wise, if you are not buying a full billet tranny from some of these companies then you get shuffled back like a second class citizen.

Actually you can beat it. As stated above, Goerend gives a lifetime warranty and they're known to really stand behind their product/warranty. There have been stories about both ATS and Suncoast not honoring their warranties when the time comes.

If you're going through HTS then use Suncoast. I'm sure HTS would help with any TC warranty problems and their valve bodies are matched to the Suncoast converters.

I would go with ATS, the warranty is awesome, you can't beat it, I drag race my truck, and when the converter locks up, you will know it, it is a great product

Well its done! I ordered my hts built trans with the suncoast converter. Im as anxious as a 12 year old school girl now. Dusty was awesome to deal with and very knowledgable. The only thing that i changed was that instead of getting the intermediate shaft, im getting the input and output. And in a year, if im willing to take out the trans again and send it back to him to inspect, he will put in the intermediate shaft for free.
