Wow - I live at the shop for a few days and come back to spitballs and detentions, on a D thread of all things!

Of course, I have to weigh in...

Danny, you have some issues worthy of discussion, but naturally you haven't been able to remain objective. The last time you broached these issues on an open thread, the rules and guidelines were clarified by Lary and some of the mods - which I was grateful for, since I myself have run afoul of the sometimes seemingly random or arbitrary "profanity" infraction. Everyone should simply remember that the owner of this site gets to do whatever he wants with it; that way it would be much harder to be offended. If Lary says we're not allowed to use the word "diesel" ( ), then I won't type that again on this site... bottom line is, when you're in someone else's house, respect the rules or leave (and kudos to those who choose to either cheerfully!)

Lary, I'm glad you've taken the time to rehash this yet again; many of us are obviously still trying to understand the policies, process and purpose of DTR - so a dose of reality medicine benefits us all in the long run. There are things we aren't allowed to do that aren't specifically enumerated in the official rules, which is as it should be (they're enough reading as it is! ); that's why it'd be great to have an aegis of warning that all could understand and appreciate, such as: let every post be one you'd be comfortable letting your spouse, mother, child, boss or religious leader read... it's easy (and natural) to treat DTR as a bunch of guys sitting around a campfire or keg (maybe both ) shooting the ahh... breeze, but a family site such as DTR must ascribe to a higher standard if it is to be successful.

The key is in how you approach your keyboard.
I don't mind ripping out a fart around my buds (not indoors, of course ), but I'd die before I broke wind in the presence of a lady.

If you can't tell whether or not to let one go - just cork it!
