How Much Timing?
How Much Timing?
Has anyone done the tone ring mod or added the rokteck crank sensor with the superchip flashpaq? Just wondering if it would be too much advance.I would like to hear if it been tried before I do it.
I dont know if it helps but I had the rok with my quad race, pepped it up a little and I didnt notice any more or less rattle with it. The thing I liked was even if I cut the quad off (if it was too hot towin or somethin) I still I had a little more get up and go than factory.
I think I still got my rok sensor somewhere, if any of you are interested pm me.

Ok, another timing question. I took my tone wheel off, filed the dowel hole and moved it clockwise about 4mm +/- 2*
Low speed fuel economy is up considerably (nothing hand calculated, just from watching the overhead)
What are the consequences of advancing the timing??
Lower EGT, Higher cylinder pressures, Higher nox, Better fuel economy, What else??
Anything need to be watched while towing? with the lower EGT One would think not... The only thing done is the timing. The truck is stock, I have no guages
Thanks.

I ended up setting my tone ring back to stock position. When I did the mod, I didn't notice any difference in performance or fuel economy, just a little more rattle. I had it this way for several months. I guess on my truck, the tone ring mod with the Quad race box was just a little too much timing. Seems to run smoother now too.

I ran the Rokktech and the SMARTY with timing enabled. A little too much rattle for me, especially on cold days. Adjusted the Rokktech back to the stock position and much more pleasant now.

Thanks for all the input. I kinda figure it will be too much with the superchip also at least on perf. mode. But I'm wondering if I set it on tow mode with a rokktech my fuel mileage might increase a little more.

The only thing you can do is try it. Some trucks like it,some don't. If you read back through some of the rocktech threads. You will see that it helped some trucks and some it didn't. On my 06 the sensor didn't do a thing. But some guys it helped. Every truck is different from the factory.
