How to make my 2003 move like a 2007 duramax?
Yeh, I couldn't believe the difference my A2K turbo made, all by inself. The stock 03 turbo is as bad of a bottleneck as the stock muffler. But you need more than 100hp of extra fuel to make it really fast. I tow on 100 hp and it's all usable power and my clutch does fine - 1225 max egt. Nothing else passes me, going up the mtns. unless they're pulling a much smaller rv. I go to 200 hp (Predator Puck stack) for fun and watch the egt. Your buddy will wish he had your 03 when you get it running like it's capable of. Craig
Turbo, Smarty, injectors, built trans, and a cp3 upgrade should get you there if you want to do it right. You might be happy and able to to keep up with a larger turbo and Smarty but then your trans will be on borrowed time.

IMHO we are having a repeat of this thread... and you see where this ended up!

I'm not looking to beat or race every truck I'm looking for that same kind of power that's all with so many members someone should know the right combination that's all in asking not looking to race just an everyday driver
A he351 will help but I think it's still the same small turbine like a he341. It's a step in the right direction, tho. Go bigger than a he351 if you can swing it. You already have extra fuel. Thy a bigger turbo and see how you like it before spending any more on more fuel. You will need a boost fooler (< $100) or a box/tuner that will do that, eventually. A better transfer pump is always good. I have a Walbro 391. Craig
Just having fun there - not teasing you.
Start with checking out your truck to ensure that compression is healthy, (if auto) tranny is in good shape, etc etc. You don't want to beef this thing up and then have parts going west on you. As seen on this forum the best upgrade you can do is the Smarty, guages, exhaust all the way through and modify the stock air cleaner. Then you have to look at the fuel filter and pump system. Next stage would be injectors and turbo upgrade. I can tell you that with my Jr on my 2007 5.9 it is scary going up the steepest mountain passes in 6th gear. Accelerates like it is going downhill. I raced a new Duraturd up Roger Pass in BC (google that Pass to see how steep it is) and he did not know which way I went. And that is with the Jr set on SW2. Mods to these trucks can keep you in the poor house. My 2c worth would be to build it slowly and ensure you have a solid platform to start with. Parts, pieces and work on these engines will bite your wallet big time if they start breaking or wearing premature. The other thing to remember is that trcuks are not designed to go 100mph down the road. They have inherent oversteer built in due to their design which makes them dangerous. Then we go and lift them with huge HP and they handle worse. I used to be a semi-pro rally car driver and once held an International Motor Racing Licence.
Good Luck with everything you do. Remember these Cummins come from the factory with about half the HP they will reliably produce and the other brands are already highly modified from the factory. Also with mods you will find the engine will rev much higher - high RPMs shorten the life of any engine. Drive with the tach.
