Need some opinions on Exhaust Systems...
I have a 2006 Mega Cab 4X4. My factory exhaust is basically discintegrating from rust. The rear of the factor muffler split today and the vibration split the rusted seams on the second muffler resonater thing. This left the tailpipe flopping around beating on the frame. I need some opinions on what to replace this with. My truck is all stock for now. My plan is for a Smarty Jr but thats about it down the road. I want a nice tone. The stock pipe is solid infront of the factory muffle. So...I could do a CAT Back system. Is there a real benefit to go from the Turbo back with a stock truck? What are some good options to look at? It seems like all the aftermarket systems are 5 inch. Should i even bother looking for a 4 inch system or just go with a 5 inch? I was looking at the Magnaflow Pro 5 inch CAT Back. What are some other recomendations?

I have (at the shed) an MBRP system that was very tolerable. I tried a Magnaflow 5" muffler with my stacks and HOLY GOD was it awful in the cab. Just recently purchased an FTE Resonator and it was night and day difference with the stacks. But if you're looking for a tail-pipe type exhaust I would highly recomend the MBRP system.

This just happened to mine too. Rusted a hole in the elbow after the muffler. Tailpipe is splitting now. Whole thing looks pretty rough actually.
I want something stock sounding. I tow and I want it quiet. Thoughts?

What is your goal? More power? More sound? Less sound? (I understand you want better tone) Lasting 100K miles? or until you trade it in next year?
Cat back systems and aftermarket exhausts in general do absolutly nothing for a truck without significant mods. No additional power or economy. The bang for the buck is extremly poor.
For tone, you really need to listen to a few differant mufflkers on a few similar vehicles. Sound quality and "pleasing" tone are highly subjective. And you can get a nice tone, but have way too much volume.
Talk to a couple muffler shops in your town. I'd almost bet they could build you a nice aluminized exhaust with a good muffler for less than a DIY cat back system would cost. Sounds like you live in the salt belt; local shops probably have a lot of experiance in exactly what you're after. You might be surprised.

This is where and what I put on mine. I love it and it is not too noisy, no drone either. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/FLO-19101/ . I found them to be very good to deal with and they had the best price with shipping.

Thanks for the responses. I ended up buying an MBRP CAT back system. I talked to a few people and for what i am doing with the truck this will fit my needs. Plus I like the tone. Larry hooked me up at the DTR store... came out less than any local shop was going to charge.
Found a guy selling a stainless MBRP 4" dual CAT back system for $150. It's missing the muffler and main pipe though. He cut the back half off and went to stacks. My main and muffler is decent still though. Thinking about picking it up.
Wondering...should I use my Donaldson with a FTE resonator ahead of it and loose the cat, or....what...
Glad you got yours worked out Mutt68.

Well i had the same problem with the tail pipe rusting, I already had the truck straight piped. I just went with the new mbrp turbo back 4'' straight pipe kit and it only ran like 150 or something like that. Its loud, but sounds dang good. DOT don't like it though got a $163 ticket for a noise violation. But if you don't mind letting off the throttle and coasting by every state cop and DOT its a good buy lol.

emissions warranty only covers the pcm and cat during the covered period. only way to get a rusted out exhuast covered under "warranty" would be if the truck was still within the 3yr/36k base. i don't even think the perforation warranty would cover it (think it only covers body panels for rust thru)
