hey guys my buddy just bought a 03 duramax. smokes white at idle. fuel filter recently changed. any ideas?

pulled up some codes at work. its a turbo code. so kinda throwing me off.

 

What were the codes and what mods are done to the truck. Is this smoke just after start ups when cold or all the time even when warm. Does it smoke at all driving down the road. How bad is it smoking alot or alittle. White smoke on diesels is pretty much injectors. If cold on start up and then goes away that is normal.

 

Injectors, but if he's using a little coolant with it, i'd say he might have some leaking injector tube o-rings-somewhat common on that engine. How does the truck run overall-any surging or misfires. Really need more info, also what code number was it?

 

Yea he should probably just sell the truck and buy a dodge...Just a thought he should run through his mind

 

hhahaha he had an 01 dodge just like mine but it got stolen and he couldn't pass up this deal. with the amount of new parts on this truck i would say it was worth it. brand new gm transfer case along with new balljoints, tierods, brakes and a deep finned tranny pan.

the only code we got was a turbo boost performance code. it smokes only at idle cold or warm. when driving no smoke. truck is stock although it looks like maybe there was a chip in it at one point as we found a piece of velcroe on the fuse box so maybe someone had a chip on there. it has a full exhaust and a cone air filter.

were leaning towards injectors though.
