Help with AFE Intake.

Hey all. Looking to upgrade my '06 5.9l stock intake with an AFE filter replacement for an AFE full intake with the Pro Dry S filter. I have a few questions about it... First off which is the one i'm wanting? I have found 2 different intakes:

This one says it allows quite a bit more air flow than the other, but I had an open intake such as this one in my car and I believe it actually hurt performance (it being a warm air intake pulling air from the engine bay in stead of the fender)

This one is the one i'm leaning more towards. It being a whole box replacement. Looks as if it pulls air from farther down into the fender and grill area.

Furthermore. Am i correct in assuming that this will lower EGTs, as well as make it whistle louder? I had been looking into these earlier but the guy from a local diesel performance shop told me that i didn't want a whole replacement because it is easy to get water and mud in it. He talked me into the filter replacement which I am actually satisfied with. Just looking to get more whistle. All of the threads I've read say that an intake is the way to go. I have already removed the silencer ring but could tell no difference.

The first one will give you more whistle...If I were going with AFE, I would purchase their Mega Cannon setup http://www.pmtdiesel.com/AFE_Dodge_D..._75_11343.html.

I actually prefer S&B's aftermarket cold air intake systems vs AFE's.

The first one will give me more whistle, which is definitely good. But how does it compare performance-wise to the second? I prefer having crisp cool air from the outside rather than hot air from the engine.

If you want cool sure, I would recommend the home depot CAI modification. I will be putting the stock box back on with this mod on the future, once I have some free time...

So lemme get this straight... The first one will give me more whistle, while the second will be better performance-wise? Or will it not be a significant enough loss to make a difference?

the second one will give better performance but not as good as the stock box and psm or home depot kit with a wix 49946 filter

i run the first one with the Pro-7 gold filter. I cannot compare it to OEM cuz when bought the truck the AFE setup was in this but with the Pro-5 blue. I only run a predator with puck on stacked performance. Turbo spools great and egt's never go past 900.
