Head stud install

I bought a set of arp studs.. My truck is a 04 and just rolled 100,000 miles. When I do the install do you think it would be wise to go ahead and change the head gasket while Im in there? Ill be adding more power down the road so just want to do it once hopefully. Also when I put the studs in. Should I use some sort of locktite on the actual stud in the block?

use the original headgasket, no need on locktite, use the lube they provide on washers and nuts

good luck

No need if you already have a good seal, why mess with it? 100,000 just broke in......

NO locktite, take the stock bolts out one by one, and replace it with a stud, torque from middle, working your way out

Blwn... What they are telling you is to remove one bolt at a time, replace it with a stud and retorque. Then proceed to the next bolt replace with stud and retorque. Work from the center fore and aft and once all are in, re-torque all to specifications. I would reccommend to drive several heat cycles and re-torque again. Supplied grease is to maintain acurate torque with out the friction of a non lubed nut and the friction/resistance it causes.

Screw studs to bottom, then back off a 1/4 turn.

also look up the torque sequence in a cummins manual. do the one for one and torques per that sequence.

also, if you dont botom tap it, be sure to notch the valve cover riser for the rear stud, otherwise you'll have an oil leek!

And make sure you find the 6 studs that are longer than the rest, they will go outside of the cover, along the exhaust manifold. I also bottom tapped the holes, takes a 6'' long tap, I also had to grind the rocker housing for clearance of the rear stud.
