HELP! Head stud install

I just finished installing my new head studs, I was putting everything back together when I noticed that my valve covers will no longer fit properly. The new studs are too long. I need about an 1\8 of an inch for the gasket to contact the head. Im at a loss so any sugestions will help

I have never seen them stand up that much. Double nut one and back it out and make sure you have it both right side up and fully seated when it is in the block.

If you pull one at a time, the answer is no as long as you replace and torque each before you pull the next, if you pull them all then the answer is yes.

After installing studs, you will want to warm the engine throughly and do a sequenced retorque anyway, so that will redistribute any stress areas anyway.

I guess Ill try that tomorrow. In the instructions it said that you may have to grind the runners in side the valve covers, but they arent hitting the runners they are hitting in between them. So Ill double nut them and crank them down and cross my fingers that it works. If not is there anybody that wants to buy some head studs?

What part of the VC do you need to grind? I'm working on a Spring project and would like to know what to expect. Thanks.

Look inside the VC ... you'll see some support spiders cast in the VC .... set the VC on and locate the one/ones that need a little metal removed ...

Sometimes you'll also need to take a bottoming tap and clean the holes all the way down, cause they will not be threaded all the way from the factory alot of times. This is from experience . This could be a little more difficult with the head on though. From what I understand, not all of them have to be done this was, but some do require it (And of course mine did, since that's just the way my luck goes!).

Most of the time you can simply grind out the valve covers for clearance with a die grinder.

But on the bright side of things, I have learned alot along the way and now I get to share it.
