Got rid of my topper....need advice on tool boxes.
Well I got rid of my Leer 100XQ topper. I have had so many problems with it I lost count. What a piece of junk!
Any way I want to get a tool box for the back of my truck. I am unsure if I want a flush type or a rail type. I am confused how they are mounted to the truck. I do not want to drill holes in the bed. Any advice. I want high quality with no problems. I had enough problems with my topper...
Also been thinking about a "headache" rack for the rear window. Got any advice?
Thanks!

I went with a Weatherguard.
Pricey, but since you get what you pay for, figured it was worth it.
I always wondered how they mounted as well.
Mine is an over the rail crossbed toolbox.
It has a screw clamp that goes under the bed rail, and some rubber that sits on top of the bed rail as to not scratch anything, so no drilling.
I've had it on some pretty rough roads and it hasn't moved or loosened up any.
And has yet to get the contents wet.
Hindsight being 20/20, I wish I would have gone with a shorter profile one,
as I have no rear-view anymore with the height of my truck.

I think I got it "on sale" for around $650.

As far as rail mount or flush type (I'm assuming that you mean the type that fits in the bed) here's my $0.02. The flush mount is nice if you don't want to see it from outside the truck, but a rail mount will allow you to still put something long in the bed and utilize the full length of the bed.
Such as if you had a long bed you could still haul a 4x8 sheet of ply wood and still close the tail gate.
I'm not sure if they're the only ones but Husky brand has a type of clamp for the rail type that you don't need to drill any holes in the bed rail.

I have a Cobalt extra deep box on my truck. It came with poly type clamps that clamp it to the underside of the bedrail so no drilling. It came from lowes. It's the diamond plate single lid, I wouldn't get a dual lid, I've seen too many of them leak. I'd try any of them out to see if thy open good, this brand opened better than the rest of the brands they sell around town. It has a push button instead if a handle. As for the headache rack I had one on my other truck and it worked very well esp. when hauling hay or something you want to keep off the back window. I found a peice of hard plastic from a machine shop the thickness of the feet on the headache rack and a thin peice of rubber to go under both so I could extend the foot of the headache rack and set the box up on it so I wouldn't loose space between them and not scratch my paint. Hope all this makes some sense

Transfer Flow
Fits below the bed
Small tool storage, but 70 Gal.of extra go juice.
When you find an extra $300.00 you can fill it up.
And the 600 + lbs should help hold the box in place
(just kidding)
You will put holes in the bed,and I think the same goes with a rack

Headache rack is a bolt on deal. If your shy about putting a hole in the bed you'll probably want to pass on the headache rack cause you'll have to drill 4 holes in the bed rails.
I've got an aluminum diamond plate K&W chest (the kind that sits flush with the bed rails). I bought it in 2001 and liked it so I kept it when trading trucks. No leaks, no problems and lots of room. I think I paid around $275 or so.

definately go for the Weatherguard. I had a Husky (home depot) in my last truck and had tons of probs............always leaked and locks always got stuck.
Weatherguard is HUGE, always dry inside, locks work perfectly and even feels better built. Weve got them in the work trucks and use them as mobile work benches.

I put 4X4's under my deep chest so I can still do what fschiola is talking about.
I did drill (2) 1/4" holes in the front of the box about 1" down from the top.
