Goerend trans installed

Topper where do you have your trans temp gauge plumbed. I have the same trans as you as well as the stock stall tripple disk and i see about 155 empty on the highway which is much cooler then before but in town I see between 180 and 195. I was told the looser the stall the hotter it will run because there is more slip in the TC. Mine is plumbed in the hot line so that might be why my temps are a bit higher. Trans runs awsome though.

Hey guys,
Hotrod,
Mine is also plumbed in the hot line. I thought the same thing that's why when I bought the Suncoast trans I ordered the lowest stall that they offered. I can tell ya the difference between the two is like night and day. I really liked the way the Sc felt, you could really feel the Cummins pull.
After talking to Dave he said that the stock stall converters always run cooler then his back cut converters do. He said that the back cutting and left back cutting converters always run warmer. He thinks that when he machines the stator it leaves a sharp edge that when the fluid passes over it the fluid heats up.
I can tell ya this when I was towing the load yesterday the trans temp never went over 130f (Thruway cruise set at 75) until I got in the city and then it was up in the 160-170 range. (Stop and go traffic) As a matter of fact, when I drive to work (empty) I drive about 90 miles on the thruway and some days the gauge doesn't even come off the peg.
That was not the case with the Suncoast, I would always see 130 -140. I also should add that because the converter in the Suncoast exploded and set little pieces all through the trans I was very careful to clean everything super good and we flushed the cooler for a full day. I don't know if it made a difference or not. The filters in the flusher weren't all that dirty. Understand this is the same truck and the same gauge so I have to assume that the Goerand trans with the stock stall 3 disk converter runs alot cooler then the Suncoast trans with the super low stall 3 disk convereter does. I know that it tows a whole lot better!!! Not sure if it would be better in a drag race or not.
Take care,
Topper

Spooler,
I towed alot with my Sc with the tightest converter that they sold so I'm not saying there is a problem towing with a tighter converter I'm just saying I'm glad I listened to Dave for my new setup.
Take care bud,
Topper

I got my advice from Dave also and I love every minute of it since. What I was saying was gears make a difference. My converter is only a little bit tighter than yours.

My smarty setings are lvl 9, tq 4, timing 3,rp0 cause i have an mp8. Since i got 150hp injectors i run lvl 1,tq 4, timing 3, rp 0. which netted me a 13.1 @ 102. My lag is not bad at all really, but i cant figure out why i can't get better than a 1.9 60 foot at the track.
