Finally installed Goerend trans.........

After a year and a half of it sitting in the corner I finally put in my trans from Dave. I never got around to it cause mine is still good and I always found something better to do. But it is in now and works great. You really know when you put it in gear now, the rpm's drop for a second and the truck really wants to go, I have to press harder on the brakes to keep it still. And I can actually feel it shift into 2 and 3 and see the tach DROP rpm's. Unlike before it would just rev and rev and could barely feel it shift. If anyone has not yet driven a truck with a good trans and/ or a tripple disc converter you should give it a try. You'll be getting one, these things are awesome.
Oh yea... it took me about 8 hours. If I had some metric impact sockets it could have gone a little faster. I am sure the next one will be down to 4 or 5 hours. I just took my time and looked at everything very closely as it came apart. It took about 15 1/2 qts. fluid and I rigged up a line to my air compressor so I could blow out the cooler lines. I had it regulated down to about 40 psi. and let it blow thru for about 20 minutes.

All I can say is... WOW! There is no way I would/could have waited that long. When I build my 48re, I am driving to St Lucas to have Dave and his crew install it. I have pretty much decided on what I need/want so it's just a matter of time... With a dually, it's even more obvious these trannies are not all they could be.

Glad to hear the install went smoothly. Enjoy!

I have been debating as to which tranny to install with which convertor. I guess everyone has their opinion, but I have heard ATS is the best. I just can't get past the mega big bucks for an ATS, a five star TC, and a copilot. I mean we are talking 7 g for this setup. Does anyone else have an opinion about which tranny is the best, but also the most cost efficient replacement also. How much was the Goerend and which setup did you get?

You hear that because ATS has a big advertising budget, just like Banks. But I feel you get more for your money elsewhere, just like with Banks. If I had to plop down the dough today for a new tranny I'd call Dave Goerend.

Dave Goerend doesn't have to take a back seat to nobody. His customer service is the best!

I'm looking to upgrade my tranny, not sure that I want / need a fully built unit though. I am considering a new TC and VB, but leaving the shafts alone. Any insights from the folks that have gone 'all the way' regarding my desired direction?

BTW - I am not planning on tremendous pulling or line launches. Just getting more power from that CTD to the ground!

Dave definitely gets a thumbs up from me (his entire shop does actually). Great guys for sure, and they do top quality work! I had them install mine as well. (be sure to check out the mississippi river while you're waiting on the install, its got some nice scenery up there in the north)

If I had an auto, I wouldn't consider anyone but Goerend.

Dave won't sell you anything you don't need.....he talked me out of billet shafts when I got the trans built for my 96 based on my HP level and intended use. Towed my 11K trailer just fine, but that triple disc TC will get a tad warm if your sitting in bumper to bumper traffic. I have a fan cooled plate cooler, just never got around to putting it in.

I have a bit over 60K on the trans in my 96, and it still runs like a Swiss watch.

That reminds me...I need to follow up with Dave to see if he got the 68RFE core....time to have him work his magic on the 6sp auto

I run a goerend full billet in my black 06 and to me it shifts better than the suncoast I had in my 06 twin turbo. I also got the shift enhancer box from dave. It's awesome too. has 3 settings, daily, tow, and race. I will never run anything else but his stuff. His customer service is among the best I have ever seen!!!
