Gauges Purchased - a few questions!

I just bought DiPricol White Face gauges for my 2004 CTD...I bought the boost gauge (0-60), the tranny temp gauge, and the EGT gauge. I also bought the pillar pod for installation....can't wait!!!

Anyway, is it best to inistall the tranny temp sending unit in the pan or one of the service ports? Seems like the pan would give the OVERALL tranny temp, but I'm not certain.

Also, I intend to install the EGT gauge after the turbo....I think some folks mount theirs in the exhaust manifold ahead of the turbo, but I am thinking that that might get chips into the turbo or the sensor unit if it should rust through or break off...am I crazy???

Any special tricks or ideas for mounting in the pillar...is this a real tight fit for all of the wiring???

Thanks in advance...

When i did my pillar mount on my old ford it was a super tight fit. I'm sure there was easier ways of wireing it, but I just wanted it to work. About the pyro, I wouldn't go post turbo unless I had two pyros. All I did with the truck I have now was drill with a little oil, and stuff the exhuast with a few rags, and revved the motor a couple times. So far so good. Wouldn't know about the tranny though.

don't put the sensor in the service ports !! either put in the pan or buy a line from massdisel.com and throw the sensor in the line going to the transmission cooler !! if you do a search on this you'll find alto of info on it .. i was in the same boat . ended up putting it in the pan .. i would have put it in the line but i got a swwweeeeeeet deal on a mag-hytec pan which already has the threaded hole already in it for the sensor .. as for the thermocouple for your pyro i would install it in the manifold perturbo . i have never read or heard of the thermocouple breaking off in the manifold and also if you are careful you can prevent shavings from falling down your turbo .. i used the start up the truck and plug the exhaust trick ...

good luck

I am really not sure whether I'll install the Pyro pre- or post-turbo....according to an email I got back from a Cummins dealer, post-turbo is the recommended place, and actually is not really needed, as the computer is suposed to shut it down if it gets too hot....not sure that is true, as he did not seem real sure.

I put mine pre turbo. You shouldn't have any problems as long as you're careful with the install. I think you'll find a pretty healthy debate on which everyone likes.

Don't want to start a war.... Pre is the ONLY way to go if you are bombing. It might seem an intimidating task, but if you read all the info and take your time ~ 15 minutes, everything will be fine.

Same gauges as you. I went pre turbo and I also used the service port on the tranny, plugs right in and gets the same temps that my boss gets with his x-monitor so must be pretty darn close. Drilling the manifold pre turbo is not nearly the daunting task that everyone makes it out to be. Just put some grease on your drill bit as your drillng and the use a small telescoping magnet to clean out whatever may be left which is not much.
