Fuel Pressure idiot light?

Hi guys,

I am going to install the GDP 2 micron filtration kit and that also gives me a good spot to get a reading on fuel pressure after the secondary filter. I am installing the 2 micron filter after the factory filter before the CP3 injection pump. Is the fuel pressure warning light set at 5 psi useful in that application or totally worthless? I know some are going to tell me to get the fuel pressure gauge and others are saying that with the lift pump I have and the CP3 that it is less critical (CP3 can pull its own fuel through maybe....doe that on the duramax?) to have a fuel pressure gauge. What do you guys think? Is the pressure light at 5 psi useful? I am considering gauges in the future and I want them all to match and that is why I am not jumping to get a fuel pressure gauge right now. Of course, I will consider getting one if the fuel light is going to be worthless. Thanks. The pressure light I am talking about is by BD-Power and is available at Genos.

Ah, I meant a fuel pressure warning light in the title. I got use to calling anything that flashed a warning an idiot light when they first starting putting upshift indicator lights in cars.

It will be helpful so that you would at least know when you were below 5 psi, but it's going to be going off CONSTANTLY. With my truck completely stock, it would have 8-9 psi at idle but 2-3 psi at WOT or slightly less. So, anytime you get on it a little, you will most likely see that light flashing at you. I would think that could get annoying. IMO, I would go ahead and get a good gauge. Just make sure that you choose the series you want for everything so that you don't have to change up again later.

The correct place to install the fuel pressure warning light or a fuel pressure gauge is, after the 2 micron filter, before the CP3.

That being said, if your only using your stock lift pump, that light will be on most of the time. Don't wast your money, save up for a fuel pressure gauge. (Quadzilla Commander is the best bang for your buck and will give you all the gauges you need).

Carwash,

I had the BD warning light in my '07 5.9. I never saw it come on during WOT though I did not had the motor under any kind of load.

When I installed the Jacobs exhuast brake the vacuum pump necessitated the removal of the pressure switch.

PM sent as well.
