Question Source for idiot light pressure switch / LP ??

My lift pump is tired and needs replaced. I am going to replace it and wire in a pressure switch warning light on the dash.

What I need to know is source and part # for pressure switch. The parts store only knows how to look up a part for a specific car. Does anyone have a make/model that a pressure switch will work on our trucks ?

thanks

Before you spend the money on a warning light can I try & talk you into a fuel pressure guage? With a guage you can monitor the health of your filter, know when you LP is getting weak, and a guage looks cooler than an idiot light.

Go with the gauge, not the light. If your heart is set on the light, look around here and start PMing folks with "campaign" pumps, they probably have the switch and everything needed in their tool box.

Yes , I researched for the same switch and found one that closes at 8 lbs, I installed it and it works great. I can post the part number on Monday when I get back to work.

I recently ordered mechanical Autometer pressure gauges at a price impossible to beat. Only if they paid me for them would they be cheaper. Will post a report once I try them. A light is not enough for me: I would like to know more than it can tell about the health of the low pressure fuel system.

robert78.5 that part # would be real helpfull!

I understand folks desire for the guages. I just pull a car on a tow dolly and ocassionally a trailer. No big performance mods. . . I just want to know if the filter plugs or the pump dies. .. .thats it. I usually drive for best mileage anyway.

On another truck I had I ordered a new lift pump and it came with a pressure switch. That and a couple dollar LED from Radio Shack and worked great. I see the "kits" on ebay but I think its silly to spend 3 or 4 times what the parts are worth. Most parts store pressure switches I've bought for cars run $8 to $15 in the past.

I just want to spend less than $20 and still have the peace of mind of knowing that the injector pump is getting fuel and my filters good.

I have zero mods on mine and don't tow anything, but people tell me that by watching your lift pump pressure you can tell not just when the pump is out already, but when it is beginning to deteriorate. Everyone is saying you can save a $1k IP by watching FP. This is why I think, gauge for me. And at $6.99 for a mech. gauge I figured I can afford to try it.

I've got a little cheapy mechanical guage I stuck in the top of the filter housing. It reads around 14 idling but when I WOT it drops down around 3 psi. The guys favoring the guage are putting them in the cab. I think those run around $70 to $100 and that doesn't necessarily include the pod to mount the guage in. Thats why I want the light. I only need to know when the LP isnt working. If its at least 6 to 8 psi at WOT, I'm not going to worry about it.

Part number is 82028130, New Holland tractor, puts the light on at 8 lbs. I just came back from a 600 mile round trip and it worked great, when climbing a steep hill and turbo started whistling the light flickered on, as soon as road leveled out the light went out. I agree a gauge would be handy, i installed a mechanical one under hood just in case the light comes on and stays on, at least you can stop and take a reading.

I am sorry, I forgot to mention that you have to get it at a New Holland farm machinery store, I trust there would be one close to you.

Pressure idiot light

Just thought I'd give my opinion. Ironically enough, I just had one of those lights installed in my 2001 24valve Ram today! After installation, the light stayed on. I had the lift pump replaced at the same time, so it already worked for me. The light will warn you when the pressure drops to levels which would indicate a clogged filter or faulty pump. I think they told me it lights at 4 psi?
I had the work done locally, but the shop sells the parts and was super helpful. Their website is http://www.mumaudiesel.com/welcome.html
Ask for Jeff, and tell him what you need. I think the light kit was around $55.00.
The system is ideal for those of us who do not haul but want the insurance of knowing when the lift pump is getting weak. They installed the light in the bezel around my instruments, and it looks great. I hope this helps you out.

I did a search, www.messicks.com has tractor parts and the sender cost before shipping is $5.36. That, shipping, and a couple dollar LED from radio shack and I'm good to go.

thanks
