filter vs. complete cold air intake

just wanted to know. I already have a trueflow replacement filter and thats all , is it worth it to replace it all with say an AFE stage 2 or what I,ve been lookin at is an S&B , just what are you really gonna get from spending 250.00 to 350.00 instead of the 50.00 I spent on the Trueflow replacement filter , the only other mod. I have is a Quad. XZT , and an aftermarket muffler. 2006 3.73 auto, Quad cab, leveling kit . Thanks

With an open conical filter you will get more flow, but you can cut holes in your stock airbox to increase flow....I think it really is a personal prefrence, although it is pleasing to hear the turbo sing thru an open afe stge II.

I have the trueflow drop in and the psmbuick cold air intake.....don't need any more air than that to support the smarty beta 4.4 (lots of fuel) on level 9....some turbo whistle, but not obnoxius...

I have an Amsoil drop in and a mock psmbuick intake made with a toilet flange and some hose. I also have a Cool Hose. Noise really changed when I put it on. Overall I'm very satisfied with my intake system. When I get able to get back to working on my truck I'm going to work on my hose intake a bit. I want to shorten it a bit and put some screen on to keep small critters out.

If I ever decide to expand I'll go for the Icebox intake. It will work with my Cool Hose or just about any other intake for that matter.

I made my own intake with a pro-guard 7 drop in filter and couldn't be happier. Plenty of air and have never had an issue with EGTs.

Check link in my Sig.

Same here.
Amsoil drop in, PSM type mod except I have the Eliminator pipe from Genos.
Doesn't get a high pitched whistle mostly a air rushing sound.

Thinking bout going with the Cool Hose I see they have them in red.
Will match the fittings on the bypass system.
Mainly looks, don't think it will be a big improvement over the eliminator pipe

Nano+PSM

I'm using the stock box w/Amsoil drop-in and a psm droptube. No difference in sound level.

I ran both a paper drop-in panel filter and an Amsoil drop-in filter.

I later switched to an AEM Workhorse HD intake and never looked back. Performance gains were immediately noticed!

How loud is the workhorse, I know some of these intakes are way too loud for long trips.

Why not just put an intake fan in behind the filter. Do a search for intake fan and read all about it. I took the pictures and dyno's out so if you want more info send me a PM. I've got a AFE stage 2 setting in the garage, I like my intake fan better. Less noise and more power on the low end.
