Strange noises since clutch replacement

A couple buddies and me installed my SB OFE about 7,000 miles ago and ever since there has been very noticable clatter/rattle from the clutch. It is usually a mild noise but sometimes it gets pretty loud to the point that it sounds like some damage is being done. Is this normal? Recently my tranny has also been making a loud whinning noise when at idle whether the clutch is engaged or disengaged. The noise goes away with a little throttle. Its hard to describe the noises in words but any advise or guesses would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

If its only when idling in neutral with clutch pedal out you are prob hearing some rattle in the clutch plate.

That doesn't sound right to me...

My OFE was quiet as stock.

If it was a DD it would almost be normal.. I don't think the single should be rattling. Something sounds wrong. When you push down on the clutch does the noise go away?

Yeah, the noise disappears when i push down on the clutch. I hate to pull the tranny again but I think it is going to happen before too long. The rattle is just too much to be normal.

same problem w/ mine

Installed new ofe, flywheel and upgraded hydraulics. Noise was terrible, i thought I'd put something together wrong. I was told to put about 800-1000 miles on it to let it break-in. It never got any better. I finally pulled it back apart, everything looked ok. I did add some grease( hi-temp disc brake type) to the shaft the throw-out bearing rides on and I also removed a shim/washer behind the ball pivot stud.

I don't know which one fixed it but one sure did. I still get a little noise idling with the clutch out but it is a lot quieter than what I had before.

Unfortunately, I think I'm going to have to do it all over again. This time for a dual disc set-up. Playing with the smarty betas I've slipped the OFE a few times, now.

Probably the best thing to do is call peter at SBC and see what he says. It is my understanding that they are now using a heavier clutch disc center and more noise may be normal. I had a SB ofe in for a couple years and it was quiet as stock, but like I said, I think the ofe has now been upgraded to a heavier center.
