Fender Flares & Paint - Need HELP!
Fender Flares & Paint - Need HELP!
I purchased the ATS fender flares for my 2006 Ram. As you can see in my gallery my truck is two-tone.
So, I opted to paint the flares TWO-TONE. The shop charged my $600.00 (this was the average quote I was getting from shops around here).
I got them back today and one of the flares had pieces of small dirt embedded in the clear coat. You could see and FEEL them. I showed this to the owner and he stated that I should mount the flares on my truck and bring the truck back this Monday. They will then wet-sand and buff them out. He claims that they will be perfect once they wet-sand and buff them but he wants a couple of days for the clear to dry and mounting the flares on the truck makes it easier for them to wet-sand & buff.
QUESTIONS:
1 - Is this true?
2- I know that the paint from the factory is average (at best) but it doesn't have dirt caught in the clear like my flares. Is this NORMAL for aftermarket paint??
3 - Will wet-sanding and buffing get them out?
4- Any advice before I mount them??

They'll be a whole lot easier to wet sand on the truck...off is like trying to sand a wet noodle.
Dirt should sand out....clear is generally thick and buffs well....my bet is you'll be fine.
My ATS flares came painted(flame red) and I paid $450 for them. I was thinking I spent too much, but you guys are making me feel a whole lot better!

I posted PICS in my gallery of what they look like (dry mounted) for now.
I am having a problem with the FRONT flare as the line does not ride straight BUT DOWN. I believe this was caused by the flare twisting during install. They taped the lines by simply holding it to the truck.
Does the line LOOK OFF or STUPID??

You are being a bit too critical Pet05. Yes they may be off by the slightest bit but once they are on for a few days you will get over it. Nobody will notice it anyways! I think they look great!! I wish I wasn't so cheap and had gotten mine painted.....
