Exhaust manifold?

Maybe I should search some more but I have been on here for a while and dont remember this particular question.

For those that have when to an after market turbo THEN swapped out the stock exhaust manifold for an aftermarket one after drivein with the stock manifold and aftermarket turbo, could you tell a differance?

I am about a month off from gettin my turbo and if it is worth it I would like to go ahead and swap out the manifold if it is worth it.

The 2 things I am lookin for is is 1 faster spoolup and 2 cooler egts.

Thanks for any info.

I did the manifold first (ATS) then turbo but I didn't notice any real difference. The ATS is definately a better piece but I'm not convinced the benifits were worth the price. The EGT's were probably a little lower but I'm not sure if they are $400.00 lower. I am going to switch to a 2nd gen manifold as soon as I get motivated, I hope to get rid of that annoying exhaust note these 3rd gens make and so far have narrowed it down to the manifold. (sounds like a large honda).

I like my ATS manifold. Flows better than stocker for sure. A little porting would make it even better.

If the turbo was made for a 3rd gen, then the stock manifold will work most all of the large singles out there.

My PS 62/14 bolted right up

Well that's what I thought also. However Ted Sterner's (P-Pumped) truck sounded like that even after p-pump conversion. Then he switched manifolds because of a turbo swap and it sounded just like a 12v or even a p-pumped 24v.

If you think they sound horrible now you should hear one at 5k rpm with that crappy manifold. I have the video somewhere.

also, when upgrading the turbo and having a turbo mount e-brake, you may have some clearance issues, i did. nothing 5 minutes on the grinder to the e-brake bracket didnt cure.

Nothing other than you might have to lenghen the oil drain tube, and your intake might (depending on brand) need modified because the turbo is mounted farther forward and farther from the block.

Oh I forgot we also put a 3rd gen (factory) manifold on a 2nd gen and it also sounded nasty. But other than making a new downpipe, everything else fit (oil supply and drain tubes even the intake tubeing fit).
